I already had a camping trip planned with a buddy at LBL for that Friday night. We'll probably keep to ourselves for the evening, but I'm going to try to come wheel for a bit with y'all on Saturday. There was no GMRS channel listed. Does anyone know or want to pick one beforehand?
I spent most of my Sunday exploring the eastern side of Land Between the Lakes just north of the KY border. I’m trying to work out a good path for a weekend trip that will include fun trails but still be doable in stock rigs while finding campsites that will fit several rugs as well. When I work...
While we all love gear, don’t get too hung up on it. You don’t *need* to spend several grand to overland. If you can car camp and have 4-wheel drive you can overland. I sleep in a ground tent that suits me just fine...use a cooler instead of a pricey fridge...and use the classic Coleman 2-burner...
I’d advise against it these days. Sadly, large groups going out there and driving in the creeks (not just across then at the proper points) and driving on private land has made enemies of the locals. They have trail cams up and local authorities have agreed to prosecute trespassers...even for...
On that note, make sure to have some sort of recovery point. We don't want to rip off your bumper trying to use the factor tie-down points if it comes to it.
If you have a trailer hitch, at least pick up a hitch-mounted shackle. I know Northern Tool in Madison has them locally. 4 Wheel Parts...
You can get around a whole lot of LBL without a winch. You just have to pick reasonable lines...unlike me.
And for the record, just before me a stock 4Runner drove right past that around the side of the pit.
This is sort of last minute, but a few of us are going up to Land Between the Lakes to trail ride and camp this weekend. Come for the riding, camping, or both. There's a separate thread about it:

Ultimately, I'm game for whatever, but I vote we try 392 first or I have a spot pinned at the end of Byrd Bay Rd (36.572944, -88.016806) that would might work as well. With Neville Bay having the boat ramp, it might be busier than some available dispersed sites.
I’m still planning on being there. I can meet up in Nashville to caravan there also.
What do you guys use for comms? I still haven’t invested in any solution for that.
I have two bookmarked:
End of Rd 392
36.543526, -88.028691
End of Byrd Bay Rd
36.572944, -88.016806
Google maps will get you there.
Do note that it’s “dispersed” camping which means that you can find legit solitude, but also there won’t be *any* amenities. No toilets, showers, water, etc...
Land Between the Lakes is a great spot. We’re trying to put together a trip for the fall there. But since you can camp right on the water’s edge it’s great for summer too.
I'm happy to put a Nashville/Middle TN meetup together. I live in the middle of town and can think of several places that would be suitable for a crowd and a bunch of rigs. Would people be more interested in weekdays or weekends? Morning, midday, or evening? If we can get a general consensus...
