I will not be able to make this. I cannot figure out how to remove myself from the list, don't want someone to miss out thinking I was coming. Hope to see you all at the next one. Will.
If you are above the water line and have a hardened shelter, stick around. Othewise, I think a rig is a good idea but the problem is that you are in a state that needs a fanboat to go anywhere once you get off pavement down where the swamps are. We are lucky out here that we don't have those...
We were up there a month ago. Biggest issue was the bugs. The brush was full of small flying bugs that covered the rigs from stem to stern but flew away as soon as we got a little speed up. Otherwise, trail is in great shape and a stock fullsize bronco made it the whole way without any big...
Not really sure what they were trying to get across there but I'll give it a shot.
These videos don't really explain of much of why things happen but they do demonstrate a little that is helpful. First, people complain about understeer but it is is designed into vehicles because the majority...
I am biased toward having one. We are a little different in our wheeling choices though. In the wheeler, we go places we should'nt quite often. We also wheel on snow, so a winch is something that gets used every trip, sometimes many times per day. For exploring, a stuck that takes hours of...
Unless overloaded or abused winches are pretty sturdy. The contactor or solenoids have always been the weak point for me. Slower winches with more gearing tend to be more reliable than the fast ones.
If you are looking for a fabric type anchor, I would imagine a good webbing / strapping company could make you one. Not sure if price would compare but the one in the link seemed expensive for what it was.
I've looked at land anchors for years and settled on a pull-pal. Now, I just have to...
I never worried much about UV resistance until I had a kids wagon for our bikes. After 3 months of sitting out in the sun every afternoon in our carport, the straps for the kiddo rotted right out. The stitching is still there but the straps turned to dust.
Now, anything that stays out in the...
There are a couple schools of thought on this. I've always run from the aux battery because I want the voltage to stay more even in the battery connected to the ECM and the alternator directly. I don't know if it actually works but I've seen vehicles die when winching really hard because the...
You can upgrade the bolts if they aren't grade 8. You can always look into adding more mounting points but if it has 3 bolts on each side, they are pretty stout in shear. There are charts online where you can estimate the capacity of each fastener. That will give you an idea of the forces you...
There is no replacement for a winch when you need one. Weight is a consideration but you can do some looking around and get one under 100 lbs all together. If you primarily go where it is dry and will only need it in emergencies, you can get away with the lighter hand powered options. There...
I'm looking forward to the review. My dad has one on his jeep and we were looking it over the other day. Looks pretty nice. I really like the tensioner on it. Wish my 8274 had one.
As for heating up in testing. I keep my pulls to 30 seconds or less. I can wait for a few seconds between...
