Rebuilt AMC 401 and transmission, only about 300 miles since then because of enduring electical gremlins.
Plenty of rust to go around, but I have new rear quarters and used donor tailgate and front fenders with far less rust to deal with.
I bought this FSJ Cherokee more than six years ago after...
I was looking at the Motofab ones, they are about $60 and are solid aluminum. It would seem to me that a solid billet like that might be stronger than the welded style. I'll certainly include the TRUXXX kit in my searching. Thanks!
Is a basic puck-style leveling kit a good call? She's a pretty tall truck already, so I'm not sure I want a full lift, and I'm fine with the tire size.
Doesn't even look all that expensive, like the lift. Working on my old Cherokee I'm used to seeing things start over $1k and then comes the optional equipment. I'm sure a good winch bumper will still run me $1500 or so.
Axle code 19- non-ls.
I'm not planning to do it soon, but now I'll be wondering how hard it would be to get a limited slip from a junkyard and install it ;)
That amount of lift sounds perfect. I will have to consider it!
It is the 5.7, but I honestly don't know what rear end it has. It seems to be a relatively base model - not a Loredo or Platinum or anything. Is there a vin decoder that will list this particular truck's loadout? The owners manual...
It is at 87k miles, and it looks like everything is in great shape. We bought it from a Ford dealer, so no paperwork from the previous owner; just a promise that it was thoroughly checked by their pros. I tend to believe them- another truck we looked at came with a list of "these things will...
For practical reasons, I needed a vehicle I can use reliably while I'm working on my '78 Cherokee. We found this '07 F-150, I think it'll fit the bill for the next few years!
Does anyone who drives one of these have any tips or suggestions?
Thanks!
I have a very open relationship with coffee, and I usually have as many ways to make it as I have means of starting a fire. But I always drink it black, no sugar.
My most recently-added fling is a moka pot. Just amazing. Cut it with water, drink it full-strength, or add it to a mug of another...
Got some new tires, replaced my transmission gasket, then ICM, ignition coil, fuel filter, some fuel line & plugs... all to try and get rid of a gremlin killing the engine when it is at full running temperature. I think I got it, but it made for a long weekend.
Thanks for the advice! I've been on the ifsja forum for a long time - before the Cherokee, I had an 81 J10. That project went nowhere, and I had a couple of kids, so we moved on to a 4-door. It's been tough saving up for each stage, but I think we're close to dealing with the body next. I have...
I can't say how glad I am to find I'm not the only one wanting to use my full size Jeep for its original purpose! I bought it four years ago specifically for overlanding with my family. I'd have been out there sooner, but other things took (financial) priority, and after the main engine/tranny...
Excellent find! My Cherokee is still stock height, but I want to address the rusty body before I move on to a lift. And, of course, the tires the PO left on it when I bought it were bald as eggs, so I need tires ASAP :)
Hello,
My name is Tim, I live in Kent, WA (about 25 miles south of Seattle). Married, two daughters.
I'm a total novice as far as overlanding goes. I camped with my family a fair bit as a kid (let's call that the 70's and 80's) and always wanted that to be part of my kids' lives, but I've left...
