That's further east than we were looking to go on this trip, but adding it to future trip. I've been around the Shoshone mountains before, but didn't go here. Thanks for pointing out.
I'm planning a 1-2 week trip trip for late June / early July. It will be family oriented, with kids ages 4-8. Three options on the table include Montana, Central Utah, & Eastern Sierra. We've traveled through each of these locations in the past few years, and would like to hit some spots that...
You've identified the places that I typically plan for that time of year. Some others that aren't (as) freezing would include Kofa, & & Organ Pipe Nat'l Monument in Az. Other locations are the hot springs in Owens Valley & through Nevada (You can do some research to find them). Keep in mind, DV...
I'm planning a high rock canyon trip over Thanksgiving. Another family will be joining us so in total we have 4 kids ages 4-7yr old. Was hoping some of you could share some attractions along the Black Rock High Canyon route we should keep an eye out for.
Totally depends on your rig and skill. It’s a 4x4 trail up for sure; except for water crossing, a stock rig with good ties and 4low can probably do it without real damage. Although lockers and undercarriage protection are nice cause it’s a loose boulders climb. Will get pinstripes.
What is the technical difficulty of the track? Its about 1-3 hrs from 395 depending which trail option you take and how fast you drive. Most the trail isn't challenging.
when going in from NV, are the hot springs across the river? You have to cross the river; it's currently flowing at about...
I have been planning a kid friendly trip for over the holidays of 5 days in Anza Borrego, 3 days on Mojave, and a few days headed up through DV & 395 towards home in Sacramento. The 2nd half of the trip (Mojave to home) we're going to be joined by a less capable 4wd (Honda pilot) who's family...
This is a great area for exploring, so much in the area. Owens river is an obvious choice for fishing. Many mountain lakes are in the region. Depending on the type of camping you're looking for: car camping at north lake, or back country via 4x4 trail at funnel lake. Pull up a map and look...
I was planning to boondock/camp at Laurel lake on Saturday night after mountain biking Mammoth Mtn. Is this group planning to be at Laurel Lake on Saturday?
There's no snow at UTC now either. If you're looking for some challenging fun off-roading with snow, I suggest eagle lakes trail at the entrance to Fordyce trail off I-80. It's probably 2hrs from Pollock Pines.
Does the gate to summit of White Mountain Peak get opened during summer? The research station road status website stopped posting road conditions in 2011. WM road status
