    What is your sleeping preference?

These are the dimensions: Length: External 2.25m / internal (mattress length) 2.15m Width: External 1.4m (1.48m inc. gas struts) / internal (mattress width)1.3 m So mattress is 1.3m wide and 2.15m long - suits me perfectly as a single guy and probably fine for a couple too.

    What is your sleeping preference?

The awning is on sliding arms with gas lifts so low for towing and high for shelter - probably 7' off the ground. I bought mine direct from Stockman in Melbourne as delivery to Brissie is $800 and for that money it was worth my while making a road trip to pick it up myself with some touring as...

    What is your sleeping preference?

When I originally responded to this thread I was waiting to pick up a trailer and have a roof top tent fitted . . . but now it's complete and has done a few longer trips so here it is; POD Extreme Trailer - DO35 hitch, galvanised frame with roto-moulded plastic tub and lid, independent...

    Member Rides

Here is my 2017 Land Cruiser 76, 4.5 litre turbo V8 diesel, and my new POD Trailer fitted with the Bush Company roof top tent. I really love this combination. The Cruiser will go most anywhere and the trailer carries more gear than I'll ever need and the roof top tent provides a very comfy place...

Up close and personal with the Genesis Basecamp Stove by JetBoil

I also own a JetBoil Genesis and find the stove is very good at temperature control which is great when you want to do something other than just boil water. It packs down to a pretty compact package and travels well and I also run mine off a 4.5 kg (10lbs) propane tank. I have heard the story...

    Bedourie cooker/Dutch Oven.

You can also get them from 4WD Supacentre in Oz but not sure if they ship overseas. Check their website.

    Bedourie cooker/Dutch Oven.

Well for bread l cheat and use a supermarket wholemeal bread mix, made to the recipe on the pack. I also make a mean Spaghetti Bolognese. Onion, garlic and Italian herbs fried off in the bedourie with a little oil. Add a pound or two of beef mince, some chopped capsicum and a couple tins of...

    What is your sleeping preference?

I have been using an Oztent with a stretcher and sleeping bag for a few years now - comfy and l sleep well. But next Monday l pick up my trailer - a Pod Extreme - and then a few weeks later it gets a Bush Company roof top tent on it's extended racks. With a 270 degree 30 Second Awning on the...

My 2017 Taxa Outdoors Woolly Bear and our shenanigans

The fancy "height adjusting" brackets are from Patriot Campers so you'll need to get something made up locally.

    Let them eat SPAM!

Yum, yum! Spam slices dipped in flour and egg and shallow fried in a little oil. Serve on a plate with baked beans and potato rosti (that would be a hash brown to you guys) and you have a culinary masterpiece sure to put any hungry human into a state of bliss!!

    Bedourie cooker/Dutch Oven.

I use mine in place of a cast iron camp oven - it bakes bread, roasts meat and veggies, cooks stews. And you can use the lid as a frypan as well. The only thing you have to watch is your heat as the spun steel is thinner than cast iron and so hot spots can be a problem. If I was baking bread in...

    Heating water under the hood

We have a heat exchanger system here in Aus that is normally used to heat water for a shower, you'll find it at this link. https://glind.com.au/store/heat-exchangers/glind-auto-marine-heat-exchanger/. These are plumbed into the engine cooling system and do not mix coolant with the water they...

Show Me Your Overland Cocktail Bar

That ammo can is very impressive, while my set up is much simpler. I always carry a bottle of single malt and some cigars as in the photo below. There is something amazing about how they go together at the end of the evening!!

Mixing synthetic oil and conventional oil

Another issue you need to be aware of is that modern engine oil is not just oil - oils use many and varied additives to achieve specific ends. Detergents are used to remove contaminants from engine components but there are many other additives that help maintain viscosity over the life of the...

    Camping waste disposal?

If I am "out bush" then I still dig a cat hole following the guidelines we all know. But I always burn the toilet paper in the hole as that was how I was taught to do it. And "leave no trace" principles apply at all times. Once finished the only visible signs should be the odd footprint...

Looking for a way to heat up the tent with out propane, or electricity

The no cost and no risk solution is to use your internal thermal generator - the human body. Make sure you have a hearty meal before going to bed and your body will generate heat naturally. The only challenge then is to contain the heat so it does not dissipate. The key heat loss opportunities...

Up close and personal with the Genesis Basecamp Stove by JetBoil

I have owned the JetBoil Genesis for about 6 months now and it has had lots of use with no problems to date. It is an expensive 2 burner stove so why pay the premium?? For me it is the level of heat control the Genesis gives you. From off to full on requires 4 full rotations of the knob. While...

    How about steam powered rotisserie?

Certainly sounds possible but not sure it is worth the effort as you may need a lot of trial and error before you get ti to work. You may want to look at this product: http://auspit.com/product/auspit-basic-portable-rotisserie-package/ The Auspit is very popular in Australia. And remember your...

    Idea for charging house battery

A couple of things you may be aware of, but just in case . . . 1. Your alternator in the vehicle is not an endless supply of power nor is it free. Running the alternator costs you fuel - it might only be a small amount but it comes at a cost. The alternator output (voltage and amps) is limited...
