Unfortunately, too much going on this weekend. I've started trying to keep an eye on this thread so that hopefully I can tag along with some people headed out!

We drove close to 2/3's of the way around it. We could see snow in the trees on some of the higher altitudes, but I imagine you'll be able to get around pretty well wherever you decide to go. Especially since you can't actually get into the National Park with a vehicle.

There should be plenty that you can get to without much issue. It’s a great area. We’re actually on the coast now. Not sure if we’ll make it into the mountain forest, but if we do, I’ll drop a report for you.

The only time I use it is when I'm on someone else's repeater. Never when in a convoy or anything similar.

Where are you thinking about having the meetup location? I should read messages in order. If I had, I'd know that the answer was TBD Greenwater.

It looks like I’ll probably be making it down there. I’ll be monitoring GMRS 15 and the tiger mountain GMRS repeater. Looking forward to seeing some friendly faces again!

You're correct which is why some GMRS handhelds are able to transmit on these channels if they meet the criteria. i.e. transmits a max of .5 w, has a fixed/non removable antenna, etc.

That was my biggest annoyance when running midland radios.

Just a heads up. Most GMRS mobile radios will not even transmit on the lesser power FRS frequencies due to various restrictions. Some mobile GMRS radios will simply skip over channels 8-14 because of this. Some, like the KG-1000 will allow you to listen, but will not transmit. Family Radio...

Electrical interference has caused me more problems than mounting my antennas on my hood ever has.

I have the MXTA26 from midland. It’s been great so far. 21 miles crystal clear. I need to go out and see if I can find the max range of the combination.

I got the KG1000G Plus "for Christmas". I have to say that I'm really happy with it so far. I'm clearly hitting repeaters 40 miles away. It's pared with the Midland MXTA26 and it's mounted on the hood in a terribly sub optimal place. So far I've defaulted to medium power for most comms and...

It's a much easier point of entry for people to get equipment for FRS/GMRS, so that's one point for it. I'm working on my HAM for a few different reasons. That said, one of the reasons I prefer GMRS is that it works with people who don't have a license, and my license works for my family...

I used to wait and hope that a dry spell would happen soon. Open it up, watch the weather and pack it back down. A fan or two can be very helpful with that as well. It’s my experience that even when soaked, they don’t take that long to dry with a fan blasting through them.
