    Tone or No Tones?

If the band is busy, it's busy. The tones just make the situation worse. You need to be able to hear if anyone else is on freq IMO. And.. not directed at you or HAMs, but in general....Just hang around moab to hear how bad GMRS users can be when they pay no mind and blast tx. It is...

Anyone have a redarc or Spod mounted in the engine compartment?

Can you tell me a bit about the system? Where is the battery you are charging? I assume in the engine bay if you install the redarc dcdc there. I also assume it is a lead acid as most lifepo4 batts generally don't like heat and its not a good place for them. What is the capacity, c-rate...

Anyone have a redarc or Spod mounted in the engine compartment?

no. I have my bcdc50 mounted near my batteries in the cab under my drawer system. It’s connected directly to my victron power in bus bar and then to the batteries via 01 awg cable. I have a 6 awg cable running through the firewall to the starting battery by way of a resetable breaker.

Anyone have a redarc or Spod mounted in the engine compartment?

if you run the redarc under the hood, put it out front where it can get air. It will get hot and derate (output less). It also needs to be close to the battery its charging. You want as little voltage drop as possible between the redarc and the batt you are charging. I don't know anything...

Road Armor bed rack and keeping gear dry

I don't think this helps much, but I keep a few select things in dry bags. Some paper products and other things. What kind of stuff are you thinking about needing to be dry?

Extremely slow forum response in OB1

I also have issues with notifications for a forum post. They load the thread but then jump to the map. I have a few screenshots of odd app behavior also in the map. It likes to randomly zoom out to half the country. I'd also still really love to see the UI scale properly on tablets, it...

Extremely slow forum response in OB1

I was trying to use it a couple hours ago, also seeing issues.

    Are refrigerator/freezer covers worth it?

They probably help a little bit. They are made out of an insulating material. I got my ARB fridge cover through a promotional offer for free. I also have vents in the sides of my platform cabinets to let the hot air move away on the sides. My setup probably isn't ideal though since the heat...

    How would you start over?

I'd start hunting for clean Land Rover LR4's ... and move as much from my current build over to it. I can't stand the tiny windows of most of the options people tend to go for (jeeps, tacomas, etc). I need my big box on air suspension with a 5.0L V8 and almost 400hp and 700+ miles of range...

    Mosquito repent?

I wish mosquitos would feel remorse or regret about sucking peoples blood, but I don't think they do. I also use the thermocell, the kinda that screws on the gas canister. Works pretty well.

Sizing lithium "generators" for my rig (fridge) and trailer.

I am not sure I agree here. I think for most people, most common uses, a prebuilt box (which contains a lithium battery, dcdc charger, inverter, 12v converter, solar charge controller, etc) is simpler, easier to use, portable and enough for most normal car camping use cases. It's also tough...

Sizing lithium "generators" for my rig (fridge) and trailer.

just a general best practice FYI.... avoid running LiFePO4 in high heat areas like under the hood of a vehicle. It is better to keep them in cab. The life of the battery will be significantly impacted by this. (Lookup the spec sheet on your pack/cells). DCDC chargers also get pretty hot...

Living in 5th Gen 4Runner during college?

I'm just trying to think of how you would have an easy comfortable space to study. I guess you could always use a library or something but that would suck IMO.

    Resolved APRS Overlay

Seems to me there are two main approaches here, one is the online mode where you are just leverage something like aprs.fi api to get points, and the more useful offline mode where you interface your device with an audio cable and setup vox on the radio for TX, etc. I imagine it should be...

Have you converted to all Electric and no Gas

I have gone very much electric on most things since doing my 340ah/4,200 watt hour LiFePO4 setup with a wagantech 1k watt inverter, but I can't bring myself to go induction cooking. I like propane and my cook partner stove. It would be tricky to use my coleman oven without propane. For heat...

    Camp AC

Those look pretty fancy. I know people that travel with dogs that seem to have more temperature constraints than just humans do. I know I have seen a few pet owners with those. I have always gotten along pretty well with fans. I love the Claymore Fan, battery powered, runs for a very long...

    Tired Overlander

I am always in awe of the full timers. I love doing trips and I wish I had more time for it, but I also LOVE my house and having down time. I am not cut out for the fulltime overlander lifestyle at all. lol.

    Rear Bumper Accessories Help !?!

I like to keep it simple. A bag on the rear tire for trash and not much else. If you need to actually use the spare it is nice to not have to dismantle 15 things off your tire. I also carry a couple scepters for water and I usually leave my little electric faucet on it so its fast to deploy...
