I'm still in the camp of no signal is nice, for now, with ham backup. But once I retire I'll be on the road, a lot so that's when I'll venture into this
I have finally completed registration for my GMRS license, woot! It's particularly full of hoops IF you don't have your ducks in a row.
So now I'm in the window between payment & notification of my call sign =)
I would love to meetup this Fall for a 2 or 3 day ride
Here's where I got the Parkway Rangers frequencies:
https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Blue_Ridge_Parkway
That & a good laminated military topo map with 8 digit grid coords
*Footnote, I have a uhf/vhf/gmrs/frs unit & am not ham licensed. I don't broadcast at all on ham. But in the USA if there is a true emergency I would be authorised to use it*
I Always have it with me since there are many dead spots for cell in the National Forests I play in. Local Park Rangers...
Buchanon Co, Not terribly far from Tin Cup Pass, last one is at a super cool dispersed camping. Tucked up in the GWNF, in VA. spot is big enough for 6 rigs - at least =)
Great point. I ruled out roof-top for that reason. My Naki is about 10 & recently started to slow down. I have too though, hot as hades out there! He is Not a Summer dog... So I'm shopping for a mobile AC now. It should work for the 2 years or so until I get around to a retro fit vintage AC...
Not planned, nope. Spur of the moment when it's surprisingly cool after a front, heck yeah. That said, it has been 99* & humid. My dog is on standby alert for rapid deployment to the mountains this weekend, weather highly dependant
My amazing wife found and ordered a set of 5 33"x12.5x15 Cooper Evolution M/Ts for $888 shipped to the door off amazon
Granted that was maybe 1.5 years ago. I love em. not noisey & no problems so far ~ 10k miles on them currently.
I'm thinking of maybe going to a 32 or 33" aggressive A/Ts, thoughts?
I'm not sure where else to post this if this is the wrong area..
I'm planning an overnighter in the GWNF to shake down my new configuration. Anyone's welcome to join. I'm leaning towards McFalls rd. But that's only big enough for maybe 3 rigs.
I do know of bigger areas to accomodate more.
I'm getting the bones set & secure. Not sure if I want to put the spare up top yet.. at 1st I was going to raise the basket to go over the rollbar but even like this I can sit under the basket fine.
That's my backyard so if you need help or company shoot me a DM. I have all the frequencies for the Blue Ridge Parkway Ranger stations too. You'll go in & out of cell service so having these is good insurance.
I've been doing some research on exactly this.
As you can see, I'll have a perfect spot to the left or right of the rack. CPVC was thought to be good for potable water but can become brittle over time. I want to be able to drink & cook with if need be. Thoughts?
Naki
I rescued him about 5 years ago (wow) he was 4 at the time. I reached out to the foster parents to see if his previous (a-hole) owner had any puppy pics and was surprised with the above!
My best fur friend
