Repair question on 97 Jeep Tj

Jeeps are simple. Turn the radio up until you don't hear "that noise" any longer. If by some great fortune nothing is broken at a given moment you're either upgrading something, planning an upgrade, or in the process of breaking something.

Repair question on 97 Jeep Tj

My daughters both have TJs and my wife drives a JKU. Start with lifting the front end up and see if you have any pay in the ball joints by pushing/pulling on the to of each wheel. You shouldn't have any movement. If the ball joints check out, look at tie rod ends and the drag link. I'm not...

    Tire recommendations

Second vote for Nitto Trail Grappler. We moved to them last time and plan to stick with them. They've been great on rocks. I hate mud but they've performed well enough in it. No sidewall issues so far. I rotate them regularly but they don't seem to need it as often as some others we've run...

    Propane distribution

Our M416 build has a space on the tongue to carry a 20# propane cylinder. Our cook station and fire pit are used on the rear driver side. I'd really like to have a flexible connection at the tank and hard-pipe to the rear of the trailer where I could mount a quick connect. Has anyone done this...

First Attempt at DIY fire pit

I had read that other places as well, but in interest of keeping the footprint small I opted to put my mixer inside. I'm just hoping that it can get sufficient air to do its job. Hopefully we can find out next weekend.

First Attempt at DIY fire pit

Our rig is a small M416 trailer with a roof top tent and we're pulling it with a 4 door Wrangler. There are only the two of us and the dog, but space and weight are still a high priority. I've seen the Ignik, and a few other ammo can fire pits and really like them more than the larger style...

    Backyard's M416 Overland Trailer Build!

We bought ours from someone who already did all of the work. We're buying stuff and planning some additional modifications right now for a couple of big trips this year. The extended tongue and tongue box are a must. The previous owner added a diesel heater in the tongue box as well. On demand...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Revolution 4.56 gears. Powertrax Grip pro for the front and a Yukon Duragrip for the rear. I just wanted to change gears to facilitate pulling our trailer, but things got out of control.

    Going it alone, or not?

I prefer to be alone or just me and the wife. She's by far the more social of the two of us and enjoys being around folks, but as long as she can get to water, moss, or mountains she's content. Fewer people = fewer issues. I will make exceptions if I am traveling with the intent to mountain...

What is your favorite Go-To knife for overlanding.

The Ka-Bar Companion lives in our rig. It must be made from a leaf spring. It has a very thick, strong blade, it's heavy, and holds an edge. Its not fancy, but it's robust. I feel like I could drive tent stakes with it or cut down a small tree and it would be none the worse for wear. My EDC is...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Forgot to post this last week when I did the work. New oil cooler/filter housing and valve cover gaskets on the Jeep. That's not a fun time.

    Night Shots of Camp

I've got two. One from our tent set up and the other from our trailer.

    Habor Freight compressor

I dropped tire pressure tonight just to check it out. It took my 33's from 14 to 35 in ~50 seconds. We normally run 32, so I overshot a bit. It didn't get overly warm either. I plan to set it up with a splitter and latching ends so I can do two tires at a time.

    Habor Freight compressor

I know you asked specifically about the HF compressor. I was looking at that one, but just ordered this one from NAPA instead. Dual compressor and great reviews. Mine should be in tomorrow, so we'll see.....

    Central Illinois

I know this is dredging up an old thread, but my wife and I are from central Illinois. (just outside of Peoria) We've been camping and hitting off-road parks for a few years but just started dipping into overland life.

Post pictures of your camp kitchen

Normally I don't roll with this much cat iron, but we were feeding some extra folks that weekend. Tables attach to the side of the trailer and are under the awning. Trailer side opens up and is our storage/pantry.

Member Introductions *NEW MEMBERS INTRODUCE YOURSELF*

My wife and I are from Central Illinois. We've been tent camping out of the back of our mildly modified JKU for a while now, but just purchased a pre-loved, heavily modified M416 trailer. We're anxious for many more adventures especially now that we have a bit more room. Planning a trip to S...
