Hey thanks for checking in. Definitely need to spend some time and update this page. Once we got home it has been non-stop. Will post some pics and updates today or tomorrow.
First day on the trail was a lot of fun. We covered a little over 200 miles. The weather was pretty bad and due to recent storms, there were a lot of trees and debris all along. Comped out on the Tennessee/ Georgia border. Here are a few pics. Cell service is next to zero and I am ok with that...
That's cool and thanks. There are a number of really smart folks on this forum that have given us ideas and inspiration. With all the content here, if you have an idea and are stuck, there is most certainly a write up to help you along, or definitely somebody that will give you some advice. We...
Long day today. 830 miles from home to Hayesville, NC. About 30 minutes from Andrews, NC where we will start on the trail in the morning. Staying in a family run motel here (Catuge Mountain Inn) and when we arrived there was a note on the front office door with my name on it with a key to the...
Hey everyone! Really psyched about heading out in about 12 1/2 hours for our trip. My son and I have made an attempt at making a little walk around video before we leave. I know it is probably not the best quality, but we had some fun and he wanted to rep the Overland Bound shirt and give an...
Hey everyone. So we are about 12 1/2 hours till we take off for our father/son TAT trip. We did our best attempt at a walkaround video of the 4Runner. Check it out here. You will quickly notice that I (we) are definitely not professional you tubers. My son is the spokesman and is wearing is OB...
So I downloaded the Gaia app this morning after seeing @A10MileHusker post his recent trip on IG. We leave in a little less than 48 hours, so nothing like getting an early jump on trying to figure out a new software app. Truth is, we have been busy preparing the rig for the trip. Really looking...
Well, we leave for the trip in a little less than 48 hours. We are pretty psyched about finally hitting the road. Just a couple last minute things to figure out here. Best way to secure the fishing poles so they are accessible but out of the way and the traction boards. Will post once this part...
Well, we are one week out before taking off so I have started a thread to document the trip so things are kept in the appropriate place on the forum. We still have some things to do to the rig and will certainly update here, but please do feel free to follow us along on the trip at the thread...
Hello everyone. Not to long ago, I started a thread in the vehicle build section https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/father-son-tat-trip-2016-t4r-trail-premium.6819/ to document some work we were doing to the 4Runner for an upcoming trip on the TransAmerica trail. I have been very...
UPS man came today and brought some goodies. Got my upright poles for the awning. This is the last piece of the puzzle for the DIY awning which I am hoping to finish tomorrow afternoon. Will certainly post pics of the finished product. Also, the UPS man brought my new aluminum housing for the...
A lot of progress today but didn't get to complete the awning. Spent 4 hours polishing and waxing the wife's car. Should finish by mid week and will post some pics. I really think it's going to come out pretty good. All in, I am at about $80 in parts.
Alright. So I removed the back seats today and packed as if we were leaving tomorrow and everything is going to fit great. Aso went and bought a bunch of parts to build my DIY awning. Will start tonight and hope to mostly finish by tomorrow. Love the weekend projects.
One of the finishing touches I was thinking about requires me to make yet another bracket. Thanks to a forum member here @kg6zjl I may have found exactly what I need to save a lot of time. Love the info you get here on OB.
Alright. Because I can't just accept the fact that I am more than ready for our Trans America Trail trip, and my aforementioned OCD and inability to leave things alone, I think I will try to furnish a DIY awning this weekend. I completely blew out the original budget (would've been fired last...
