Thanks for the heads up! I was just talking to a friend about that possible meet/training/camping event that you had mentioned before your globe-trotting adventure. Is that still happening? Do you need any help with anything if it is?
I don't have one but I have seen a couple at Bargain Hunt for really cheap. You might want to call around and see if any near you have any in stock.
Edit: Forgot to add, congrats on the house! What part of town did you move too?
Welcome! We just started organizing meets so you haven't missed out on much. It seems like we get together about once a month to grab a beer. Now that the weather is warming up I think we will be meeting up for rides more often. If there is a trail or area you want to explore feel free to make a...
I found this local guy who makes skottles here in Nashville. http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/189517-cooking-skottles I emailed him and the next batch is spoken for but I thought you guys might be interested in the future.
Here are some cooking videos using one:
Fried Rice
Steak and...
It was awesome to see you guys tonight. Bval, once you're back from your epic adventure let's setup that mini trip. I think a lot of folks would be interested.
This is why I was leaning towards a hard-wired GMRS solution. I can have the main rig and then a set of handhelds to hand out if needed. These could also be used for on-site comms for people who like to wander a little after a camp site is setup.
Okay, so flares it is. Next time on the dirt devil I will shoot a red for left turn and a yellow for right turn. I think orange for water crossings and maybe 2 reds for photos ops. jk but if we do it around the 4th we may be a hit.
I have the link open for that CB right now! I think I am going to go with the MXT275 and then also that CB soon down the road. Would interference between the two be a concern? They seem to have similar boxes off the handheld units and I would probably mount them close together if I can.
Edit...
From what I understand, GMRS is like a long distance walkie talkie and can talk to FRS walkie-talkies so if someone else has GMRS and so do you then you have walkie-talkies (which is a really dumb term) on steriods. If I am wrong please correct me but thats my current understanding.
What communication radio system are you guys using? I am looking at getting a system of some sort as cell service is not always great. I like the idea of gmrs as the distance is about the same as cb but the sound quality is better.
Any suggestions? I don't think I am in need of HAM yet, it...
I was browsing craigslist and came across this cool van. I know, if you are already on the site you dont need a rig but I figure I would share it anyway. Not really for offroading but cool for exploring the country. https://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/d/ford-adventure-van-camper/6519569464.html
If you want all dirt then the Cheatham WMA is a fun little area. Its close and is mild like the DD. There are a lot of out and backs to explore and some nice little spots to stop and eat lunch. If it has rained recently it gets a little muddy but most 4x4's can handle it easily. Just thought I...
That's awesome!
Edit: It's also useful as I build out this other map so thanks! Attached are the public Gaia maps that cover that area. BTW if you guys dont have Gaia its a great resource.
I will see if I can add that manually. Gaia uses mapquest maps (what year is this!) rather than google so its a little difficult but I can probably figure it out.
