I carry an axe for the situation you describe. A winch has saved my ass, but there's cheaper and lighter ways to solve what you desvribe. I sometimes also carry a machete and a dewalt cordless chainsaw if trees are likely to be an issue.
Ive had one for 25 years. Has saved me and friends. Is very heavy and bulky. Works best in sand soils. Must dig a small starter hole in most cases. long arm works better but takes up ore space.
Bottom line - if you are going remote with no trees and theres a good chance of getting stuck...

I bought one and it was absolute junk. As in valves leaked, handle did not fit well, weld looked cheap. I took it back ad back and bought an integrated bottle jack/jack stand on Amazon, Way better.
