Best CO area trails for photography?

Gregg We're heading out after the 4th to Colorado, and every Colorado trip we've done over the years has been to the San Juans/Alpine Loop. Sadly that won't happen this year because of the fires. (Boort's list was spot on, by the way) Here's a few suggestions. 1) loop from Durango to...

    Your Overlanding Style

I've researched and debated, to myself, by spending wisely how best to equip for overlanding trips. For a while now, I've been conflicted. I went back and forth between truck camper, Tear Drop trailer, trailer w/RoofTop Tent, and on and on. I was trying to solve multiple situations with the...

    GSI Halulite Kettle

Man, how can something this light, this little make such a big difference? Well, after decades of using a nested pot in my Coleman cook kit, I bought this GSI Kettle. Game changer! Boiling water is a piece of cake. No more spilling water everywhere...no more hunting for a rag to grab the hot...

    Gas One Dual Fuel Stove

Took it to Arkansas 2 weeks ago for the Razorback Ramble. The stove pulled mostly breakfast duty for making coffee, oatmeal, grits etc. Evenings heating water for Mountainhouse meals. Boil times on 1 quart of water was 2:30 to 2:40. In my book, pretty good times. Simmer setting for the coffee...

Show me a Road Sign.....really any sign...

Sign on my classroom wall for the times when my seniors failed to turn in an assignment. My response was to point at it and say "there's your sign".

FJ Summit and the Colorado fires

Cruiser folks; Are there alternate plans for the Summit? The trails and campgrounds are closed in the San Juans, which is where most all the trails for the Summit are located. Is there a remote possibility of a Summit cancellation? The fires ain't out, and it's only a couple of weeks away. Any...

    Overland Travel Series

Suggestion Jorge...MOAR! :-) Seriously, would like more info on the daily routines on how you handle things. Bathroom issues, cooking, water, multiday stays in a remote location...you know the mechanics. Because right now I'm still unsure how it would work. Wife and I are prepping for a summer...

    Hot weather camping

For those of us who live in the hot and humid south, hot weather camping is a fact of life. Here's a couple of ideas to make it a little more comfortable. First, forget the ground tent. Get off the ground and let "convective cooling" work for you. Try hammock camping...it really is cooler...

    Overland Travel Series

Jorge. I've been watching your videos for over a year now(subscribed), and have really enjoyed them. Especially liked the north rim Grand Canyon vid, which was one of our favorite trips 30 years ago. Love the Syncro concept, but VW's execution is sadly less than reliable, which is why I have a...

    Razorback Ramble 2018

My SIL and I made to the Hot Springs ORV Park last Thursday for RR 2018. This year they had a record number of rigs, 78, and the park was packed. I left Ponchatoula on Wed. headed for north Alabama to pick up Joseph and Thursday we left for Hot Springs...and boy was it hot...like 97 degrees...

    Official meetup(sortof) at Razorback Ramble

Met the Brofessor and wife at the Razorback Ramble in Hot Springs this weekend. Very hot for this time of year but we hung in there. We enjoyed the OB fellowship this weekend.

    Roof rack or trailer?

Just got back from a 2k trip with the trailer. Solo I got 20mpg and with the trailer I got 20mpg. It tucks in real nice behind the FJ. Plenty of room for all the camping gear and still carry my RTT. All loaded down, trailer and cargo are about 500lbs. Before when I mounted my RTT on the cargo...

    La Garita Wilderness

1)Take Hwy 114 north out of Saguache, Colorado then turn left on CR NN 14 and proceed through Rabbit Gulch. You will soon climb over Cochetopa Pass/Continental Divide. At Cochetopa State Wildlife Area turn left onto CR KK14/FR788. Continue on to McDonough Ranch and over Los Pinos Pass. Stay on...

    Best roof top tent

Fortinb. Dow Blue Board Insulation. Took a 4'x8' sheet, cut to size, and double sided taped it to the RTT base under the mattress. I've camped in 20 degree weather and the insulation did the trick as we stayed warm and cozy with no cold spots. Another benefit was no problem with condensation...

cooling system for RTT in summer camping?

Road Thanks for the tip. I already had a Ryobi drill with 2 One+ lithium batteries, and checked Home Depot yesterday and low and behold they had the Ryobi fan on special. It came home with me :-)

    Hybrid Overland Trailer -

Shaun The little Lowe's trailer is a good option. Mine is still a work in progress. So far I've done the axle over, welded bars to mount my RTT, put leveling jacks at the rear corners, wheel jack on the front, larger 13" tires/rims, bearing buddies. Future add-ons; like you diamond plating, and...

    RTT storage

I live in south Louisiana and just like you have a high humidity environment. My RTT stays in my garage as well, and so far has been no problem. But if humidity is really bad you could do a couple of things to mitigate that situation. 1) Open your garage frequently to air out and turn on a box...
