    North Texas get together

Andrew feel free to reach out to either of us with questions. There have been meet ups in the DFW area off and on over the last couple of years. Go to the meet up forum (Overland Bound Meetups | OVERLAND BOUND COMMUNITY ), filter by region, and take a look at each one if you wanted to see where...

Let's see some HAM setups in your rigs

Yeah, I guess I took broke to be bent/busted but having the ariel removed and dispersed still leaves you with an antenna you can't use so I suppose I will retract most of my previous statement.

Let's see some HAM setups in your rigs

If you have a limb that large and that low that it breaks the antenna mounted on your fender/hood, the antenna is going to be the least of your worries. I have 3 antennas mounted on the roof and a 102"+ antenna on the side of my Cherokee and they get smacked against tree limbs every time I...

    GMRS Frequencies

Also, for future radio questions you might consider posting in our communication section. You should get more responses there.

    GMRS Frequencies

channels 1-7 are 5 watt channels, 8-14 are .5 watt, and 15+ are 50 watt channels and repeater outputs. Your mobile probably doesn't do 8-14 and I would imagine you would want to use the 15+ channels as not to limit your power output.

    OB preferred channel is 15.

    Ham callsign

Are you on a computer or mobile device? If using a computer click on your callsign in the top right, click "your account" (should already be selected), a box will drop down, "Account Details" is on the left a few lines down. The next screen that appears, scroll down about half way and you should...

If you had to pick just one to start…

I wouldn't even consider GMRS for emergency. A ham radio at minimum with a sat device preferred. Not everyone is a #radionerd and gets into ham radio as a hobby, many see it as just a tool. But with many things to be proficient you need practice which would require you to have a license an spend...

    Mobile HAM radio suggestions

Doug, is APRS of any interest to you? If so the FTM-400 would be the go to of the two you listed otherwise as noted it may depend on the digital voice protocol of choice. If aren't interested in either of those (APRS or Digital Voice) then you can't really go wrong with either. You might...

    GMRS Issues

So the fob malfunctions even with the radio off? I am assuming based on the fact that you had to disconnect the wiring. If so that's not likely an rfi issue and I would lean more towards a ground issue. Are you running both power and ground to the battery? If so try grounding to the chassis...

    Dual band ham antenna recommendations

@WTSMatt that would not be a recommended mounting location as both the C-pillar and the rack support will bounce signals around and would likely interfere with the antennas tuning causing a high SWR. I would suggest on the roof or on the rack if at all possible, even if you have to use a shorter...
