It was a great trip. Bethel ridge was good, 0 snow, the road down to that camp site was probably the most technical of the entire trip. The ruts were bad in the corner but were easily bypassed, though I was able to make it through relatively easy (drug my diff a bit but never struggled for...
Welcome!
My advice would be, learn as much as you can on tread lightly (they have an overlanding specific section too), safety (both first aid and just being safe off road), and off-road etiquette. and link up with a few folks in your area for good places to go... then GO! your Raptor is an...
First I don't understand what's going on... Whenever I post a link to something on overland bound it links to a diesel heater. I did link to that diesel heater in another conversation like 8 months ago. But this is even a different phone and yet somehow overland-bound remembers that link...
Agreed. My rtt(ikamper skycamp 3) is pretty fast to deploy and pack up for the tent itself, but gotta inflate/deflate the mattress, pack/unpack bedding (can't keep it in the tent) then set everything else like kitchenm, awning, bathroom up.
And yes even with a hard shell, I still have to watch...
Yeah and I think that's part of it, we've done about 10 trips with it, one for two weeks... and found it pushes me to bring too much lol (I have the space so why not fill it mentality) and I really like the idea of basically 0 setup/tear down if needed.
But yeah, I'll probably slowly refine it...
Looks great! I am strongly considering scrapping my trailer that I built last year (Cargo box with RTT on top) to do a Square Drop... thankfully the wife doesn't read this forum lol. I just really should have stuck with the original plan of a square drop. really liking your build!
That's a fair point.
the problem is, there's not a great place to send folks where they'll get good info without all the "you must have xyz" to really have fun. Hell I even find myself influencing that unintentionally... I like gadgets, and I like to make my wife comfortable (so she comes out...
Not with the Hest. But I've used mattresses for my old tepui tent that were a little too wide and more than a couple inches short, with no issues, but it probably varies by tent design
I strongly recommend if you go with a forced air heating system... bite the bullet and go propane. odds are you already carry propane, so one less fuel to worry about (n/a if you have a diesel rig). @PapaDave has a propane heater and the nice thing is it's reliable at all temps... (I've...
Having bought a diesel heater that has been finicky... I'm definitely going to propane... the other thing that some folks don't think about is the diesel heaters don't cycle on or off... just low to high. so while dave was able to maintain a nice 65... my tent (same ikamper) 30' away was 80...
Looks good, not really sure why your thumbnails in your post aren't working (but I was able to click on them in the attachment area)
I'm lucky enough to call @PapaDave a friend and spent the last year and a half on trips with him. And I've really gotten a first hand glimpse of the benefits of...
Definitely liking this idea... I can barely walk into my garage without hitting my head (6'4 opening) let alone dream of getting my GX in there (it barely fit stock if I pushed up on the garage door while going in/out)
Curious if you had measurements, I know mine will probably be different but...
Question, how many folks have HAM? I ask because I want to create a quick cheat sheet for the frequency=GMRS Channels so we can quickly switch if we run into too much traffic on 16. as well as keeping a list of folk's call signs. I figured since I'm making one up for myself, I'd make a couple...
Simple (updated lol)
how about, Invest in good gear (expensive doesn't always mean good), invest in knowledge (tread lightly, mapping/navigation, first aid\safety, recovery) and find a group of like minded folks (or go solo if that's your speed) and then GO! lol.
you'll learn what you need vs...
Hest's mattress does really well in the cold, it's $$$ but was specifically designed to prevent the rock hard feeling in the cold... and if you don't want to deal with inflating/deflating... they make one specifically for RTT's...
