The real issue was speed and the fact that I'm on pavement. Doing 70 mph on the freeway with less than 20 psi in the tire didn't create ideal conditions. The lock was starting to shift and expanded beyond its optimal operating standards. Failure was imminent.
No vandalism. Just a huge tire pressure change due to weather conditions. Should have checked the tire pressures before getting on the road. The actual bolts are and were still in the back ring. The heads were just missing from the shifting of outermost ring when it started losing tire...
