Moving on to the rear 14 bolt full float axle.
Ordered up a disc brake conversion kit from lugnut4x4.com
Should shave a little weight, the old drums are massive, and make for improved braking....plus looks way cooler!
Today I got the rotors and hubs back on. Also installed a new pinion seal. Would love to do an OX Locker while I am at it but it's just not in the budget.
I didn't know that Moses lake had sand dunes, but I am not from here. I will try to make this a day trip. It is grape season (side hustle) so can't guarantee it, but would love to check it out.
Progress, got the new stub shaft and all new seals. Pressed the shafts together, no issues!
Also sent the rusty rotors off to get blasted. Got them back, shot them with some 2000* aluminum paint then took them over tho get resurfaced..While I was waiting I removed ALL the old crusty grease in...
Yes, They are big enough. The stock tires were big enough, well....until you bolted on the Amazon steps. Those gotta go. You WILL catch the steps on something and bend them. Or, as to gain confidence you will eventually hit the rail portion on something solid and bend the lower rocker. Function...
I think getting a good AT like a toyo AT3 or similar is better than a bigger tire.
Not sure if it was mentioned, but for us up here in the north where we do get a fair amount of ice in the winters, a bigger/wider tire does give you a larger contact patch, BUT, lowers the PSI of the of the tires...
Well, good news! I got another ujoint…..Bad news, the holes in the stub shaft are slightly elongated. Like by a few hundreds of an inch. So, not wanting any potential failure points in the future, that could have been prevented in the past, I ordered a new stub shaft. Another delay! Oh well.
Little bit of side hustle this weekend...Had to finally take the rack and tent off to start hauling with the new gooseneck. Gotta get the International finished!
I guess it depends on your budget. You mentioned an Alucab, so I am assuming the budget is pretty high.
Have you given thought to instead of building a truck mot do it all you just buy some gear that will allow you to get your work done? Like a larger tent with a cot, folding table and chair for...
Is there a swap meet section? Looks fun. I've got an ol' 1949 Ford 8n back in Wyoming. Bought it for my youngest to learn to drive on. He ended up cutting a dirt bike track with it and the attached sickle mower.Lol
It's been busy but trying to continue progressing..
Today I broke down and finally bought a shop press. The factory joins in the 10 bolt axle shafts were just stubborn as could be. I was able to get the old ones out but my gosh did it take some force.
Then I took some time to wire wheel the 25...
There is a guy here in the States that installed an aluminum canopy (with rear double doors) on his Nissan Frontier. Then he build a pop out on one of the rear doors to gain enough length to sleep in it.
Look up SoftroadingtheWest on youtube. I thought it was a good idea unless you are shooting...
