We've been looking at doing something like this as well. I wanted to maybe try and do two routes, as Indiana is the "Crossroads of America" I thought about trying to do a North to South route and an East to West route to crisscross the state. A Trans Indiana Trail System if you will. So much...
We'll be heading down Wednesday night. We're doing the Overland Experience so we'll be trying to get to the camp early on Thursday. It's our first time going so we're pretty excited. We'll be heading down from Indianapolis after work on Wednesday in our Commander and LR4. Anyone know if you...
TAT Day 1 – Starting the Trail!: Marlinton, WV to Covington VA
We started our day out with a fantastic breakfast at the restaurant at the Marlinton Inn, did some final checks of the maps and GPS and then went next door to the Marathon station for a final fill up of the tank and the gas cans...
Things did not go as planned…… but more on that later!
TAT Day 0 – The trip to the trailhead: Carmel, IN to Marlinton, WV
We left Home around 2:00 PM on Friday to head down to Marlinton, no real rush as we were not planning to hit the trail that night and instead planned on getting a good...
For GPS I used a Samsung Galaxy Tab A running Gaia GPS with Sam’s tracks loaded. That was my primary source of navigation, but I also had a Garmin inReach Explorer + with Sam’s tracks loaded as well but that was primarily used for tracking and staying in touch with friends and family...
Hi guys, so sorry for the extreme delay in updating this. I’ve been bouncing around for work since we got back. Long story short, things did not go as planned, but we still had a GREAT time. We wound up with a blown radiator, cracked windshield and we lost three days in Virginia waiting on...
Oh awesome! How were the NC sections? Was wondering about the hurricane Creek road part. Sam has it marked on the GPS and maps but also with a bypass. Ha ha the way point in the GPS from him is actually labeled "6 miles of hell". Is it really that bad?
Sent from my SM-G935V using OB...
I can’t believe it’s finally here. Months of preparation and dreaming and it’s finally here. Tomorrow morning we set out to start the Trans America Trail. We are doing the “official” TAT using Sam Correro’s maps and will be hitting the NEW sections so we will be starting from the NEW trail...
Getting ready to set out on our trip on April 20th. I'll be using Gaia GPS as well as our inReach Explorer + for navigation. Any advise or info is much appreciated. Thanks.
Yep! Two weeks from today! We'll be driving down to the start of the new sections in Marlinton West Virginia on the 20th, staying the night there, repacking the rig, grabbing last minute grocery supplies, getting a good nights sleep and then setting out to the trail on the morning of the 21st...
Following! We'll be setting out on our TAT trip April 20th and wrapping up our first section (all the time I can take off work) on April 28th. Good luck with your trip, I'll be posting some updates as we go so hopefully they'll help you guys out on your trip too.
Starting our trip in April on the new sections starting in Virginia (West Virginia actually), then to NC, TN. We only have about 7 days so we'll see how far we can get before heading home. Going to try and knock it out in sections. Looking forward to it.
