My thoughts exactly. When I started getting back into camping I just bought the bare minimum. Then after a couple trips I was able to get an idea on what I needed to add and remove from my camping gear.
After searching online i was also able to get a cooler for my camping setup that was barely...
I didn’t need a winch when i was there. I sure there are places that might require a winch. My 4runner has a short wheelbase and I almost high centered it. If you have a long wheelbase you may run into an issue like that. Just make sure to walk a trail if it looks difficult to make sure it is...
There are a lot of mild trails in the National forests in southeastern Oklahoma that would be great for anyone with a 4x4 to do. And it is only about a 3 hour drive to get to the Broken Bow/Ouachita National forest area from DFW.
How do you guys in Arizona deal with the heat when camping? I am considering moving in the next few years to a new place and Arizona is on my list but I'm not to sure about the heat.
I have a cheap Coleman tent that I like (it is a spare) and we have a giant Cabelas Alaskan Guide tent (it is probally 15 years old) that we got from my grandpa. It is an amazing tent, perfect for longer camping trips. It is also very difficult to assemble, you need at least 2 people to do it.
Dogs are a great deterrent to would be thieves and will let you know if bears are around. I would also say if you plan to leave camp set up a couple of well placed game cameras can help catch a thief who tries to take your stuff. The would give you an idea of the time and the direction they went...
That is why a park is a good place to start. One less thing to initially worry about but it makes you consider the subject. There are also some remote parks with outhouses in National forest lands you may consider. In the Ozarks I found a day use area that was empty that had an outhouse. If you...
Ive been through the area a few times and went offroading there once. It has plenty of trails for beginners and unmodified 4x4s. Holly trail is a popular spot but because it is so popular it may already be in use. When I went there there was a tacoma with an RTT set up there.
When camping for the first time I would stick to state parks. That way until you are comfortable with your set up you can get in a couple trial runs without being to far from civilization.
No need there. I went an ran part of the K-trail last fall. It was pretty fun. Wish the whole trail was open. It would be fun to run it from Clayton to Arkansas.
Im a new member (been reading the forum for a year though). So far I really like how the forum is set up and people have been really nice here as well.
Lol. I think i know what you mean. That sounds cool. I wanted to go down the shore to the south a little ways and camp out. Not sure when but probably in June some time. If I could get that route from you it would be great. I planned a route heading north from HWY 70 takiing N4750 to N4757 to...
That is one of the areas I marked! it looks like an abandoned boat ramp. Are you able to get to where the end where you put the pin or was that as far as you could get?
I don't know when at the moment. I want to find a really good camping spot on the shore so that my dogs can do some swimming. From the views I saw at Holly mountain it looks like my best bet is on the east side. I have already marked out a few trails that should get me there in Gaia GPS. My next...
