I've been debating this same thing in my head. Have a bed rack picked out, but then changed my mind and decided to go with sliders first. Likely will go with the RCI sliders. Seems like they're the best option for me with a Tacoma double cab and long bed.
Thanks for posting this. I've had my emblems since 2018 and I've never quite figured out where I want them. I like the idea of mounting to the grill. Maybe one will finally make it on to the Tacoma.

I've been out there a few times. My son and I were chasing all of the Pony Express trail markers. We had gotten to the point that it is more than a day trip and trips out sort of dropped off. Need to pick back up with that.
