What is your favorite Go-To knife for overlanding.

I have used DMT plates for more than 20 years. They will wear in and shed some abrasives along the way. Coarser diamond plates WILL rip the carbides out of the edge, I use a (green) 1200 grit 12" mounted bench model they no longer make for sharpening and (red) 600 grit for re-profiling. The...

What is your favorite Go-To knife for overlanding.

Diamond plates (industrial sapphire). Modern knife steels aren't your Grand Pappy's old high carbon steels anymore. S30v,S35vn,Manacut,Elmax,,S90V,S110v, M3,M4,M390,CPM D2 any of the powder metallurgy or high speed tool steels, you're not going to get it done with natural stones or even man...

Adding 121 lbs. (winch + mount) to my front end

Put your winch on and drive it for a year. If in a year you're still worried about it, re-spring it. People get way too caught up in these deals. What about when you put your 250 pound buddy in the passenger seat?

No experience with them but more specifics regarding what you are installing them on and a link to the site would be helpful.

Why are torsion bars so vilified? And were Land Cruisers ever designed for recreational off-roading?

Perceived necessity doesn't equal actual necessity. You can drive a car/coss over/sport ute to 80% of the places you might want to go and bring it home under its own power. If you want the other 20% some suspension and drive line modifications are going to be required and torsion bar...

    Non Lethal self protection

Most everything is a "less than lethal" weapon if you use it as such, similarly most everything is a "lethal weapon" if you apply it with adequate vigor. I carry bear spray for bears and slow learners and while you're trying to get that shit out of your eyes I'm going to make sure you need a...

Off-Road Rescues in Colorado Are Getting Out of Hand

Meh, the more people you have driving off road, the more people will get stuck. Life is dangerous, some of the most entertaining shit is the most dangerous.

More than one unrepairable punctured tyre?

My reference to third world is specifically with regards to likely availability in the case of of a necessary replacement.

More than one unrepairable punctured tyre?

My truck and trailer both have the same size tire (35/10.50R17) although regrettably not the same bolt pattern wheel (despite me spec'ing the trailer with it) I wouldn't carry two if i wasn't pulling the trailer, but I'm also not traveling in the third world in most cases.

    Is Electro-Overlanding a thing yet?

Ford loses $36,000 on every F150 lightning they produce link , I've seen similar but larger numbers for Rivian The taxpayer loses another $7,500 Those losses/costs are packaged into vehicles that the majority of consumers actually want (IC) and shouldered involuntarily by the taxpayer I...

What's the deal with repair parts these days???

Your first sentence is contradictory. You sold a vehicle at 60k with no problems while preparing to replace valve train components that weren't bad and are in no way part of normal PM. If you don't like Jeep I get it, but conjuring non-existent issues is hardly Jeep (or any manufacturer) problem.

What's the deal with repair parts these days???

LOL, wait until you try to charge your EV after refusing the latest vax. Manufacturers produce/secure a quantity of replacement parts consistent with their expected failure rate. When it turns out the original production run is defective on a grand scale, demand outstrips supply. I had this...

Jeep Wave is dead. Now introducing the Overland Wave!!

Although the influx of city folk have diminished it somewhat, it is still common in the rural south to acknowledge everybody you pass with a wave of some sort. It is also still (less common) to speak to people you meet in passing. The internet and electronic communications has brought rise to...

DIY trailer build - battery in trailer or vehicle?

Sounds like a minimalist build, I would personally treat it as such and use a portable power station. However if there was to be a dedicated battery specifically for the trailer only, I would want the battery mounted to the trailer.

    Financing My First Rig

July 23 prime interest rate is 8.5% Bank to bank is 5.25-5.5% , prime will generally be bank to bank plus 3 for the average borrower, very high credit scores may see a reduction from that 3%, anything less than bank to bank will be manufacturers artificially supporting the interest rate to...
