Also, if your coming up from Coal Road you will see there is a trail cutting off to the right about 1.5 miles or so in that takes a more direct route up the ridge. Its a little more of a challenge and I think the worst of it was the first 100 yards or so
Yes I marked the Coal Rd trailhead and the Campsite near the top on the OB website map. I've marked a few trails and campsites on there actually. It could be a awesome resource if people would post stuff to it.
I'm a maybe but will track this. I posted the Coal Rd trail head and campsite near the top on the map. I would suggest running it from the bottom (Coal Rd.)....more fun.
Stock height FJ will be fine I would think. Been through there with stock height Jeeps on street tires. The trail can get tight so be warned you might get a few pinstripes. I haven't but wider vehicles than a Jeep will. I will try to make it as well but have to see when the time gets closer
There are a lot of great places to camp around Big Levels. Couple of great places near the top on the trail about a mile off Skyline Drive. Just was there a couple weeks ago. One of the sites is at the end of a short spur trail used to be the site of a fire tower and is still marked as such on...
Mine is off as well but not that far. Still in my county. Certainly not using my address. Wish the map let you move your own icon and update waypoints you create. Work in progress I guess. If more people start using this and adding trails and campsites it will get some more attention. What a...
White is the best color for hiding them. One of our first trips out in the our white jeep was on a very tight trail and I thought it would be destroyed but in fact the only pinstripes I could find after washing it was on the black hard top. Unless your pushing through limbs I bet you'll find...
In my experience, its typical for a GPS to take a while to acquire when starting for the first time. Subsequent start ups in that same general area will be quicker but it can still take a few minutes though based on signal strength. Same is true if you turn it off and then fly to the other side...
I've used several including MotionX, Backcountry Navigator, etc. and prefer Gaia by far. Works well on an old iPad2 and a iPhone5 not so well on fairly new Android tablet. The Android tablet doesn't have a lot of memory and was cheap so not sure if it was a fair test but Gaia is fairly new to...
I've tried several and prefer the gaiagps (link below). It works well on a iPad. Also, if your iPad is not cellular capable then it does not have a built in internal GPS. It does not need to have a cellular plan (connected). If not then as jimi breeze said you will need to get an external GPS...
So its seems that the Resource Map and the Member Map are one in the same. I tried to post a campsite but its not showing. Does it have to be vetted by OB staff or something before it posts? take time and I'm not being patient? Since OB is about exploring I love the idea of having a map of...
It was a good day wheelin with a purpose. Instant friends all working together. Group broke into three teams. below is just one of them heading to the trail head
an old mattress box spring
and one of the dumpsters we were using
I've seen worse oil pans than that but whatever. VA4wda's...
I'm going. I have already thrown in on the headcount on Facebook. link below for more info on camping etc. They have already secured camping at Sherando Lake and I'll be camping Friday and Saturday nights
We're in! 2nd trip out in this rig. First trip out with OB crew and looking forward to it. Will be camping night before and after at Sherando Lake with other friends that are not running the trail.
Hello from VA!
Brand new Rubicon with no upgrades....yet. Took it off-road camping last weekend and going again this coming weekend and haven't made a payment yet! [emoji6]
Have had several rigs over the years. Last one grenaded a year ago and gave us the excuse to get what we've always...
