Hey Lenny, sorry for the late reply.
It mounts to my spare tire carrier. Dave at Trailworx Fabrication built it to replace the tire carrier and the rotopax bolts onto it. I can take it on and off when I need to.
It bolts to the pointed end of that arm.
Well I hope to see some of y'all there. I'll be driving down from Arlington to Wimberley that weekend.
Sunday morning we'll head over to the Expo and park the rig and wander around.
So this weekend (Oct 16th) is the Texas Avid Outdoor Expo.
There are a lot of Texas Overland folks going, I believe. I'm hoping to get a glimpse at some of the cool equipment from the vendors, namely Solar solutions & offroad trailers (for when I get a place to store one).
My rig is still a...
That's them. It's weird, I see the events on my phone, but not on my computer at work.
It might be the permissions they set the event up with. There is a gal on that page named Melanie, she's the one putting it together.
We have the maximum vehicles allowed per group campsite, according to the ranger I spoke with a few weeks ago.
They said that 5 was the limit.
However, there is another group going those same dates. They are base camping at Rancho Topanga and driving all over both parks and local backroads. I...
San Luis Pass south to Surfside? How's beach access there and is camping allowed?
I used to drive my pickup around Surfside about 10 years ago, but never camped.
I want to take the grandkids and nieces and nephews there sometime soon.
If you're in the Austin Area on Sunday Oct 16th, you might be interested in this expo.
It's pretty much everything "outdoors" including overlanding.
From all the posts I've seen on facebook, the Texas Overland group is helping out and/or showing up to show off their rigs, answer questions and...
Thanks!
I'm heading out that way in 3 months. This time roughing it in the State Park for about 4 days. Going to try to traverse it on as many back trails as possible.
I haven't been down by Port A yet.
I used to live around Pearland and would drive down to Surfside every other weekend in the summer time.
When I was younger I lived in Galvetraz right out of the USAF. Went for a summer, stayed almost 7 years.
I've heard to stay out of the dunes, and I have no...
Although I didn't get off pavement, the wife and I traveled from Biddeford up to Camden along Hwy 1.
We were down there a week, but only got a few days to drive around and explore.
It's beautiful up there!!!
I'm looking at doing a beach run again, probably next spring.
Port Arthur along the old Hwy 87 at low tide, down to the Bolivar Ferry. I haven't been that route yet, except for Crystal Beach.
I think the Port Arthur to Winnie would be a lot more remote and fun.
Something I'm researching.
Sounds like a plan. I just had a wrangler join our group. He's a friend of a friend and was real enthusiastic about the trip.
So as of now, it's 3 FJ's, a Humvee and a Wrangler.
Well, I talked myself out of the Jumbo Joe.
Really, for packing as light as possible in my FJ, it wouldn't have fit.
If worse comes to worse, I'll take a bag of charcoal with me and put that in the firepit.
I'll stick to my propane and/or wood while out on the trail.
Ok, so I have a coleman burner/grill that I take everywhere when I camp.

I REALLY love to cook over wood and coals.
For me the smokey Joe was too small for group meals but... I...
Ooops, I'm reviving this one...
I posted this question on another blog a while back. I received the varied answers that are on this thread.
I went with cheap pop-up shelter (Had decent reviews), a toilet seat for a bucket and some poo powder.
The scented bags were HIGHLY recommended , as were...
