Recommendations for 1st Overlanding Trip (Northern California)

Don’t bite off more than you can chew in Hollister. From SJ that’s a home same day trip. If you are looking for overnight trips head to the Sierras. Not terrible far. Plenty of space. Loads of forest roads and dispersed camping.

That little boats name is clearly “The Aquaholic”. You’re welcome.

Did you guys see this article?

No RTT, awning, cable on the winch... Not even on dirt. Fake overlanding!

    Roof Top tent removal

Man up and just handle it was my next suggestion. :grinning: Do be careful though. You are one slip, trip or odd twist from loosing a good chunk of travel time with an injury. Next time put a call for help out there. There’s a ton of folks in the Bay that will only charge you a handshake and a...

    Roof Top tent removal

This is the justification you have been looking for to buy a winch and some recovery gear. Strap in the tree to a clevis and a snatch block. The winch will pull it right off. Slap four casters on a pallet, drop the tent on it and you can wheel the tent to where ever you are storing it. It’s...

The farthest you’ve ever been from...

Lots of debate on OB about “What is overlanding?” “Who is an overlander?” Etc., etc. It is abundantly obvious that there are Armchair Overlanders to Weekend Warriors to Indiana Friggen Jones and everything in between on OB. Personally, I hate the title and would have a hard time caring any less...

    Fake Overlanding?

Just because it’s dead doesn’t mean we can’t keep hitting it with the biggest stick we can find!

Why I keep my roof top tent mounted on an off road trailer.

I’ll just assume the pictures do not do the trail justice.

    Fake Overlanding?

Seen a guy in a Honda Accord yesterday with a winch, roof rack and fuel cans. I bet he gets way farther from the mall parking lot than many in far better built rigs. :joycat: I can’t believe how far these threads drag on. Arguing semantic seems a silly thing. Especially on the internet where...

You think pay to play would curb this?

    Fake Overlanding?

These are the threads that convince me it is the right decision when I say I am not an “overlander” when asked. I just do what I do. You can call it what you want. Makes no difference to me. Hopefully it doesn’t make a difference to you.

New to Overlanding, curious about RTT reality

I think it really depends on what your version of overlanding is. I almost never stay in the same spot more than one night. If I did, I would probably not go rtt. I have an ARB Simpson III which is a traditional flip style tent. I find it to be a bit of a pain as much as I set up and take down...
