Next steps are the drawer system in the back and installing solar on the roof, with a REDARC BCDC1240 for charging my LiFEPO4 battery... I've got most of those pieces and parts, just playing Tetris with it...
I added some storage on the rear BajaRack for fuel and water, and some Amber LEDs for chase lights. I found a LED strobe module at Super Bright LEDS and was able to hook that up so the chase lights flash, when I push the button on the switch controller...
With the switch controller in place running the accessory LED lights was a breeze. The LED lights are all Amazon purchases, Nilight, Auxbeam, etc; so far I've been happy with the light output compared to the expense of the major brands.
I installed an Auxbeam switch controller in the overhead sunglasses holder. That wasn't complicated; however, I notoriously break things, and have always been nervous about removing panels with clips...Lots of You Tube video "how to's" later I bit the bullet and dove in!
I had 4wheel Parts install an ARB Front Bumper, with a Smittybuilt winch, OME Heavy Duty rear springs (The old stock springs were already sagging) . Somewhere along the way I found a used cap online and also installed a Baja Rack on the roof.
I used to have an old Isuzu Rodeo, and loved the spare tire on the rear bumper swing out. Having a spare tucked up underneath a truck is a nightmare especially if you need it out on the trail. The need for a new spare, prompted the first set of upgrades... A Fab Fours rear bumper with the spare...
I quickly learned that if a vehicle was previously registered in the Northeast, double check for rust underneath. Fortunately this Tacoma had the Frame replacement recall already completed, but the steel rim on the spare tire was a different story! That rim was not salvageable or safe!
This is long overdue, I apologize for the sparse pictures and time gaps. Most of the work I've done myself, by myself (translate as slow and frustrating :smirk: ), or had shop do an install. The truck was delivered on July 17, 2021.
My old 2005 Tacoma had >524,000 miles before the head gasket finally let go...granted that was the 2nd gen and 4.0 liter engine. The Tacoma platform is known to be extremely reliable.
That said, what are your goals? Is this also a daily driver? Do you enjoy working on vehicles? - Some folks...
2012 Tacoma - Carvana purchase (that in itself is another can of worms) sometime after my 10 day grace period to return the vehicle with no questions asked, I was installing the new license plate, when I noticed this...I know - buyer beware, but I was in a pinch after my 2005 tacoma blew a...
Hello all, Glad to be here. I'm a long time camper, backpacker, and Toyota fan. I've got a new (to me) 2012 Tacoma Sport and eager to start the build up. I'm loyal to the 2nd Gen Tacoma's after my first rig (2005 SR5) finally retired @ 524,000+ miles with a blown head gasket. I plan on...
