I'm afraid I don't have one, exhaustive source. often, I just ask my buddy who used to work for the forest service where recommends camping! But I'll usually just do a Google Search with the place I want to visit, followed by "BLM Land" or "Dispersed Camping" Generally, if you google the site...
I own an '05 4runner. I've got the same clearance as the current 4runner. Fully sufficient for any rutted road you want to get down, but if you want to go places where the Overlandbound rig goes, you're going to need a lot of upgrades. Lift, tires, lockers, skid plates, and rock sliders.
Also, if I can make a recommendation, add Escalate to your list. Not a national park, but you'll get less crowds. So many amazing hikes in a small area. Look for Jacob Hamblin Arch, Golden Cathedral, and Calf Creek Falls.
Utah'n here! The national parks are great, but if you want to camp in their campgrounds, you'd better start booking! They fill up quickly. If it were me, I'd camp on the copious amounts of BLM land around the parks, and take the money you would have spent on campsites to purchase a camp shower...
For video, I use a GoPro Hero 3. I love that I can put it anywhere, and it's lasted me two years so far! Though sometimes the wide angle makes hills look flatter than there actually were.
For stills, I use the camera on my Nexus 6P. Takes pretty good shots, but I'm hoping to upgrade to a nicer...
Looking forward to meeting my other Rocky Mountain Overlanders!
Spring Canyon Bottom, Northwest of Moab UT
Little Grand Canyon South of Cleveland, UT
And Cathedral Valley in Capitol Reef NP
I'm actually interested as well! I don't plan on owning my current rig forever, so I'd like to steer away from anything that is mounted under the hood. I'd like something I can clip on to the battery, and is good enough to air up my 265/75/R16's.
4th gen owner here! I bought mine a month and a half ago, and so far I've only done tires! But it has been a blast. Decent mpg, and the low range crawls up hills I just got back from wheeling down in southern Utah, and it did so well.
This looks fantastic! Would I need a pulley system for getting my 4runner unstuck? Seems like a cheaper solution than a new bumper and winch!
