I agree. I had two lengths left from another project that were already the correct length. It did not take me long to decide to use them for the bed rails to support the deck. Strong and light weight, the two big requirements.
Thanks for the quick reply. Your right, lifting the rear might mean parking in the garage is no longer an option and I don't like leaving it in the summer sun. The front lift is probably plenty. I think I will order the 2" front spacers today.
Can you tell me a little about the leveling kit you used? I am about to purchase and I am thinking about leveling and adding 1" in the rear. I am looking at a Rough Country kit that has rear shocks and a 1" rear block. I'm not sure the rear lift will be necessary.
Spring Break and Thanksgiving are the busiest times in the National Park. The Chili Cookoffs (There are two on the same weekend) are outside the parks and I never see many of the chiliheads in the parks. That being said, November is a popular time in the National Park, I just would not call it...
I booked a site about a month ahead, if I remember correctly. However, when we got there we changed our site to White Crack at the suggestion of a Ranger. Turned out we were the only people camping there that July 7, according to the Ranger. We had our choice of camp sites. Originally we booked...
White Rim was fantastic. The only area we got close to having a problem was climbing Murphy Hogback. That was because a large bolder had fallen on the trail and it covered more than half the trail. We had to stack rocks to get over it since we could not go around it. Everything else was pretty...
Yes, it seems Toyota and Jeep have the overlanding market pretty well covered. I'm planning to level the front soon because I keep dragging it. I'll post information when I get that done.
Welcome from Texas. I like the look of the Outback with black wheels. We had one years ago and traded it in to get a vehicle with a third row of seats. Wish I had not done that. - Matt L.
I guess I should have mentioned the specs on the truck:
2015 Ford F-150
3.5 L Ecoboost
4X Offroad
Current mileage: ~55,000
I love how it runs but I am not looking forward to the day the turbo goes out.
It has been great for towing motorcycles and boats and the Sports setting on the...
I am interested and not too far from the park, in Midland.
I was there in June and have been going to Big Bend for 20+ years. I can help with planning if you are interested.
As far as camping inside the park, Cottonwood and Rio Grande Village are both near 4x4 trailheads and can accommodate...
You don't see many full size trucks on Overland Bound but where I am from everyone has a full size truck for work and play. In the oil field you need a truck. The great thing about most 4x4's is, the only required upgrade for overlanding is dirt. Of course toys are fun and a few safety and...
