Even a properly setup CB pales in usability and range to an entry level mobile 2M, particularly when you start considering the many features CB lacks such as APRS, digital modes and repeaters... all functions we use heavily @ XOverland. I grew up playing with CB’s, but I can’t imagine investing...

Update: Our group departed Baja today. Border times ranged from 15 minutes to 2 hours at various borders (San Ysidro, Tecare and Calexico West due to different destinations in US), no noticeable time difference from the last 7-8 years. Great camping, great tacos and a great race.
