A VERY unconventional dash mod. (In-dash binoculars)

Nice, I hate digging for mine when you need them in a hurry, I like!

    Skid plates and sliders

Oh yeah, I know they wouldn't hold up to any serious abuse, much like aluminum I imagine. I was mostly referring to the bars that allow you to push over an obstacle instead of just hanging up on it. Seems like a great way to save weight by not plating the whole undercarriage.

    Skid plates and sliders

I don't know how common this is in aftermarket, but I think the way Dodge designed the skids for the power wagon to be light weight is pretty genius, and seems easy enough to replicate DIY.

    Skid plates and sliders

Hard for me to tell from your photos, how are your white knuckles holding up? Just cosmetic? I just ordered a set from them in 0.188 DOM for my 7,500lb truck.

In SoCal for a month, anything going on?

I'll be RV camping somewhere near Joshua Tree or Anza Borrego area for at least the next 5-6 weeks, and I've got a week of vacation time to burn before the end of the year... hoping to leave the trailer for at least a few days and explore a bit. Anyone in the area up for coordinating an outing?

    Avenue of the Giants

I just drove this a couple of weeks ago, randomly followed the sign off of 101 and ended up spending a few hours exploring in the rain. Pretty incredible place to stumble upon!

Alabama Hills/Death Valley November 10/13 with stops in between

Yeah that photo was pretty early, I remember my driver-left tire slipping down a little. In retrospect I think I should have handled it as a V notch instead of only lifting the one side.

OB Approved So You Want To Be A HAM? (US Edition)

Great thread @Lars, I just posted an outline of FRS/GMRS/MURS/HAM in the comms forum today before I realized this was here.

OB Approved Baofeng radio configuration and methods

Hmm, you're right it does appear to be specific to licensed amateur operators, as far as I can tell. I've always read "by any means necessary" and would fully plan to do so myself if required, but I should change my wording. Thanks for pointing that out @Mad Garden Gnome.

OB Approved Baofeng radio configuration and methods

You looking at the Nagoya whips for the Baofeng handhelds @dghcruising, or mobile? Handheld, I highly recommend the Nagoya NA-701 over the longer variants. It's way more manageable to carry on hip, in vehicle, and to store/charge and the difference in performance with the NA-771 is negligible...

OB Approved Baofeng radio configuration and methods

Agreed @Disco_Berty! I've thought about switching to nicer handhelds but I don't use them that much and it's really more of a system, nice that everything is interoperable.

Cool @twin magnolias, hope it helps you get started. I had a JK previously and used StrikeForceZebra's CB mount to mount the head of my old icom IC-208h up near the footman loop... in case you're interested. I mounted the antenna to the drivers side fender under the hood but that later got...
