Big Bend NP - Thanksgiving Weekend

I'll be in Terlingua for the next couple weeks and planning a multi-night trip into the park and some trails for around Thanksgiving (11/22-26 or so), if anyone is interested in joining, or meeting up, let me know!

Why you need to buy a quality Handheld (Portable) radio.

Great share @Kent R , also goes in hand with running the minimum power necessary to accomplish your goal. No need to run 50W in most groups unless you get separated, and you don't need to run 5W in hand while spotting. It seems many tend to set their radio to High and leave it there permanently.

    New Midland MXT275 (GMRS Mobile)

Just ran across this as an alternate to the Cobra too: https://www.uniden.com/automotive/cb-radios/id-CMX760/CMX760_Off-Road_Compact_CB_Radio

    Scanners

I'll be following this one, I'd love to get a scanner for the truck but they do seem complicated for mobile operation. I use the ham for scanning analog FM on VHF/UHF sometimes when I think about it, pretty cool monitoring the fire dispatch and park ranger animal reports in national parks. And I...

    New Midland MXT275 (GMRS Mobile)

I just prefer NMO mount and clean install with no cables running through doors or magnets on the roof. Dedicated UHF antennas are pretty small and I'm not overly concerned about it being high efficiency or performance so that included antenna would be fine, more about the clean install for me...

    New Midland MXT275 (GMRS Mobile)

Dan, looks like your GMRS callsign was issued as WQZG538 http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=3918643 I just did a ULS search of your ham call sign to get your FRN and then searched other licenses associated with your FRN. Ham is my primary as well, and I have my...

Hello from the Great Lakes area

Yeah, the Titan will fit through Devil's Pocket, @BoldAdventure has a good photo of his Wagon in there. It's tight but fits. I backed out of Kane Creek at one of the squeezes, I just couldn't make the turn and didn't have rocket protection at the time. I've learned a lot since then, and have...

Hello from the Great Lakes area

Here are my conflicting perspectives on that, to help make your decision more difficult. I tow a 30' travel trailer full-time, but if I didn't, I would be in a Wrangler. The Power Wagon is extremely capable, it's stable and does really well in a lot of places that the shorter...

Hello from the Great Lakes area

Yes the trail was pretty tore up compared to last year, this was May 2017. We went up the hard (left) side and got to the top shortly after the group that went the easy route. It was pretty rough, lots of time hung up on skids and backing down to find new lines, lockers definitely required. We...

    Ford chirping the 4Runner?

Hate this type of marketing, like Chevy bashing the F150 for using aluminum... just let your product speak for itself and stop with the embarrassing desperate attempts.

Getting it done on the Cheap

I'd vote NO on that one. They're handy as loaner/beater radios or for getting started, but I've had too many fail to want to actually rely on one. Get it wet or drop it, and there's a good chance you're done transmitting, plus the battery doesn't last long but there are some workarounds for that...

James Baroud Isothermic Kit review - An Overland Bound exclusive

Hey @TDGarage, I just posted on your other thread before I came across this one. Looks like your pictures may solve some of my frustration with the isothermic kit. At first I installed mine around the outside of the corner struts like you, but found that the doors wouldn't stay lined up as I...
