I bought a simple ladder rack for a pickup. Mounted it to my side rails and painted it with black undercoating. Working on a way to adjust the height for transport.

GHB is a must.... doesn't have to be expensive, any type of bag will work as long as you can use the items in it. I've seen all types of them and wouldn't leave home without one. Bag cost $15 and contents I've collected thru out my travels.

I'm a big fan of having a winch, it has always been one of the first things I change/upgrade on my Jeeps. Barricade winches have worked well for me in the past. 9500 steel cable (still old school. I've pulled a lot of trees off the trail in the past. Here is a picture of one I just put on...
I've been using my IPad with MyTopo Maps. Works great online or I can switch to off grid maps. Easy to set waypoints and change layers with a single swipe. Trimble Outdoors provides the app.

I've had some of the best experiences in the AZ desert, hot and dry on the valley floor, great trail system in the Mountains. I'm up for planning a New Mexico meet up, but as "Road" posted we would have to tread really carefully due to lasting impact on the ecosystems. Not sure if the desert...
