On this...the Ex and -250s also came with a solid front axle if 4WD, although the Ex’s aren’t as beefy (a smaller Dana 50 versus a one-ton on the -250/-350).
As for fuel mileage...I get anywhere between 12-15 mpg (if I keep it below 65), but that’s with a truck riding on 35s with a big brick of...
I’m really interested...my Ex could use a new front bumper! Well, the one it has is fine, but this one would be a lot cooler and eventually line me up for a winch...
If you don’t mind me asking...why are you getting rid of it?
We’re looking for a two- or three-night trip over Halloween weekend...we’ve been sorely inactive during CoVID (and on this site, sadly).
What’s been shaking in NoVA overlanding of late?
On a whim, the missus and I headed out to hunt country using Gravelmap. Excellent resource...almost entirely accurate (a couple of paved stretches that were listed as gravel, but nothing major) and a great way to explore nearby areas. We’re looking forward to expanding our travels beyond the...
So, I added OME spring packs to my Ford Excursion last August. Couldn’t be happier with the suspension package thus far, until today when I found out that all four of the bushings are blown out (I asked a shop to diagnose a low-speed vibration/rattle that I couldn’t track down).
Now, the rig...
So...some prettying-up of the truck happened, and what should’ve been an easy fix led to wound to my pride (that could have been A LOT worse).
Given that the truck is 20 years old, some fading of trim is expected. I got tired of seeing the dingy, ash-colored trim and faded windshield wipers...
It’s been a while...again. I’m hoping that the new app will improve the frequency of my posts (though it has been a bit buggy).
Our overlanding trips—including a week-long one planned for April—were panned due to all of the obvious shenanigans. Shame that so many campgrounds and trails were...
Nice to see people getting out a bit more!
We did an easy drive up Taskers Gap a week or so ago to knock the cobwebs off...muddy and rainy, but easy nevertheless.
My beast is going in for surgery tomorrow...new injectors, cups, under-valve cover wiring harnesses, glow plugs, and a deleted turbo pedestal. My bank account is already screaming “uncle”, but I’m in way too deep at this point as it is! [emoji53]
Thanks for the reply...you CAN rely on a snatch block, so long as you can manage it in whatever situation you’re in. I’m by no means a winching and recovery expert, but given that my truck is at/over 9,000 pounds fully loaded, I’m not sure I want that that small a margin!
So, I’m probably going to need a 15k/16.5k-rated winch for the Excursion. Warn is the obvious choice, but the roughly $2k price tag is tough to swallow. Does anyone have experience with Smittybuilt or other similar options that might be a bit lore budget-friendly?
Thanks.
Thanks for starting the thread...you can see the progression of our build here. Next steps hopefully will include a Buckstop front bumper and winch, and probably some injector work...he made it 250K+, but I think it might be time for some new ones plus cups and harnesses...
There's no chance my kids (or wife) could get in without them. Might have to drop the boards eventually in favor of sliders, but that's not in the cards financially right now!
Went with 35s for a number of reasons. Firstly, the front leafs REALLY complicate larger tires. You can squeeze them in, but anything beyond 35x12.5 will rub on the springs and wheel well liner. That, and there was no way I'd be able to keep my stock bumper...I barely fit the 35s in and even...
