Me and my old lady drove through there on Saturday, we found a good campspot off of NF-49. There was quite a few cool spots right on the North Fork Sauk R.
Mendocino was on the original trip plan, I definitely want to check it out. Along with Shasta-Trinity and Lassen. We planned to hit it on the way home... but when we found out Tioga pass was opened up, we rerouted to the I-395 route
Just got back on Monday from a 10 trip down the West Coast US, and return up through the Sierras/Cascades.
It was alot of time spent on the concrete as we were covering 2k+ miles... But we found plenty of time to get in the dirt and mud
Our big destination point was Yosemite National Park...
hmm sorry bout that, yeah if you google mountain loop hwy road status itll pop up. They just reopened the gate for the main hwy that follows Sauk R. all the way to Darrington.
I spent a good amount of time last year exploring the Mt. Loop highway area near Darrington. The gravel "highway" goes from Darrington, south to Granite Falls. There alot of random forest roads accessible from there.. Here's a link to what is open, but its still early in the season and alot is...
I just got home (Seattle) from an 11 expedition of the western coast... We traveled us-101 from Astoria to just North of SF Bay, and then cut across Cali to Yosemite. Our route home was through the Sierra Nevadas/Cascades.
As far as the coast goes.. definitely stop to see the Redwoods! We drove...
Looking mostly for dispersed camping near Shasta. Ive heard that area can be popular.. will it be difficult finding a good dispersed spot on a Frifay night?

In a couple of weeks I'll taking 10 day trip down the West (US) coast, and then back North through the Cascades. Starting point being Seattle, and turnaround point being Yosemite NP.......
I was just curious if anyone had any cool suggestions on stops along the way. Most specifically Mt...
Ahh very true. Yeah fingers crossed, people will be able to contain their campfires better this year :unamused:
We usually try to find a good summit to hike up to when watching meteor showers, so hopefully that opportunity is available
I was looking into doing a run at the northern sections in mid August. There is a big meteor shower on between the 12-13, and the North Cascades are a great spot to view it
I just began planning a (10 day) Seattle > Yosemite.. one thing that I've noticed about Cali, is there's not much opportunity for "dispersed" camping on the coast. I booked a campground spot at Jedediah Redwoods State park which looks cool. We plan on camping there, and then spending the next...
Hey man, this looks cool! I might be interested. I dont have a DSLR.. but ive got a couple gopros that are capable of shooting the night sky :sunglasses:
I've done this drive before, and it makes for a great day. Stopping at deception pass is a must, and there is actually a cool short (hiking) trail there called Goose rock. its the highest point on Whidbey.
There's also a cool road to the top of Mt. Erie (Fidalgo Island) that offers great views...
Yeah that looks legit, maybe do a search on tacomaworld, I'm sure someone has done some testing with it.
i would just make sure that thing is bolted real well, because that thing would be one hell of headache if ripped off during recovery
