I was eying a newer cr-v that fit basically the same criteria, just with an awd option. 31-32 on the highway supposedly. might be worth looking at. hertz sells rental cars for a reasonable price and i've seen some cr-v's on there that are awd.
FWIW, I ran a set for 55K and they were great in the snow on a very light truck (2860lbs). Swapped to Toyo Open Country AT3s and they seem to be just as good in the snow so far (only 3k on them and one snowstorm); I switched only due to the wildpeaks not being available in the oddball size I was...
That gets me current.
Truck has been running fine. Got new tires in mid-November. Decided to just bite the bullet and size up. I'm still waiting on my block from the machine shop, so it'll be a while but I have more power on tap coming down the line, and then turning these larger tires will be...
Got engaged in April (a bit out of order, but a cohesive post so idc if you think it's a bit disjointed timeline-wise).
then went searching for the right spot to get married:
Then Mammoth for a Trail running Ultra in August:
Mountainbiking on the first snow day of the season...
Took a trip through Boise, into Montana, and Yellowstone after July 4th. Long story but the rear diff in the Lexus went out. So we did the rest of the trip to the Yellowstone and the Tetons in a rental and flew home. I flew back a couple of weeks later and drove the Lexus back home. Not ideal...
Got an Auxbeam 8-gang switch panel to install:
Still not hooked up, but it sure looks good in place of the ashtray:
Also got a nice tool roll setup that I'll hopefully not need very often:
Cliff notes of the last 10 months or so:
got the motor stripped down and dropped it off at a local machine shop that I hope has his stuff together. Block, head, and rear timing cover are all there to be decked and checked.
swapped out the rear diff cause the pinion bearing was HOWLING. it...
I sure am. Got a new crank and rods for it, and the stuff I was missing (harness and ecu). I still need a clutch and a ton of odds and ends.
The block, head, and rear timing cover are as the machine shop waiting to be fixed up. Full clean and inspect on everything, valve job as necessary, and...
More zion:
And the road back:
After that, i found a guy in Sac that was selling a dressed longblock and goodies for CHEAP so I picked it up.
ThenIi found THIS during disassembly:
October 22, the next trip was a shakedown thru gold lakes highway:
My buddy's new truck
Then Went to Arizona for a late fall trip:
finished the camper drawer setup and used it for a bunch of camping trips.
We went to Phoenix, Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and Zion. All of that was...
Howdy, and Gig 'Em!!
oh yeah, the blacked-out look was terrrrrrible. It had to go. took me 5 years to get back out to the mountains, and I still miss Texas a lot sometimes, but 10/10 would do again. I'll soak up as much of the mountains and alpine fun as I can for ya!
Yeah, I have made a ton of...
Third: Built a truck bed camper setup
It's certainly not perfect, but it fulfilled it's purpose more than adequately on the inaugural trip it was planned for.
Key criteria this design filled:
Easily removable
Modular
Collapsible
Robust
Stores appropriate gear
My family pitched in as a gift for...
wrapped the harness in the door and got the clips on so i could figure out how i wanted to start sealing up the doors and adding deadening. wrapped up door-wise harness. i shouldn't need to take this out again to do the door plug, so i also went ahead and did some of the sealing of the GAPING...

First post:
Caping trip to Bishop and Mammoth.
Got the truck all buttoned up from the sound system exploits/detours. then immediately (like I finished the autotune on the headunit as we were loading the truck up to leave 3 hours late) hauled ass to the promised land, AKA Bishop, CA. I have been...
A lot has happened since the last update on Shirlee.
I will break it up into a few posts consisting of:
2 camping/wheeling trips of note(Bishop/Mammoth and White Rock Lake)
Covering the full cab audio and power components install
A modular camper bed platform setup build with very few pictures...
I went ham on it. All three parts on the doors and back wall and as much of the floor as I could do. (CLD tiles, closed cell foam, and mass loaded vinyl) dropped in cab noise while driving around 12db based on a phone app
I may have to bug you in PM about your swap. I'm still a little foggy on...
