All of this happened very quickly so, use your imagination
Me: 1 24 year old Specialist stationed in Augsburg, Germany
Vehicle: a 1987 Buick Regal (Not a T-Type)
I had blown a rod on a the Autobahn so, I decided to do an engine swap. The base (Kascern) actually had an excellent DIY garage and I...
I am making the trip from South Florida with another friend. We will be camping on my property in Franklin and just doing the one day (Saturday) at the expo so we can make it back home on Sunday.
I carry my Glock 9MM all the time. Out in the woods while camping, I do carry my old police special .357 and I keep an old Remington 12 gauge pump action.
Well, Toyota has probably the best engine ever made as far as reliability. The Land Cruiser seems to be that perfect blend between "big enough to store all your crap" and "not a huge machine". In addition, the popularity of Toyota makes parts and maintenance an easy issue pretty much across the...
Just to add my $0.02 here.
In an earlier post, Justin (Nomadic Mechanic) spoke about a snorkel.
Now, I have been wheeling with him and I have seen first hand how water can stop a vehicle. In his case, water had splashed up pretty good and soaked his air cleaner to the point where he could not...
We have been hearing a LOT about the new JL and I for one cannot wait. I have been REALLY wanting a 4 door Wrangler and I am holding out for the new JL instead of a JKU.
On the Rugged Ridge one, all it does is extend your air intake. You still use your factory air cleaner and everything else from the air cleaner up to the throttle body is factory. I can't see how anyone can ding you for smog issues.
I personally could not tell a difference with my 200 HP Wrangler but, I would imagine something with higher horsepower might have some benefits of a CAI.
As long as you keep the rig running, the water will not rush back up the pipe. I have stalled in the water before and never had a problem restarting it. I figure as long as I start it back up quickly then the water does not have enough time to climb up the pipes, fill up the muffler, and work...
Most of my wheeling is in the South Florida swamps. I have been hood deep for extended periods of time before and, on the Wrangler, as long as I have my doors on, I don't get water intrusion inside the cab.
I spray everything in the engine bay with WD-40 to help repel water as much as possible.
It took me about six hours to install mine. That is from physically pulling into the garage to putting all the tools away and sweeping up. Cutting the small notch in my fender tool about an hour because I was nervous but, people who have done it a few times can cut it in about 5 minutes.
My...
As long as the roof rack doesn't extend more then a few inches in front of the windshield, you should be OK. I ran a Kargo Master for a little while and never ran into any kind of issues.
Now, the pre-filter is good for REALLY dusty off roading but, think something like that Baja 1000 where...
Well, with the exception of the mushroom cap, I am not seeing anything different. I have been using the first one for a few years down in South Florida without any problems. I have had my 2010 JK up to the hood in water for extended periods and the air filter has never gotten wet.
I bought my 2010 JK as a replacement for my 1973 VW Beetle which, quite literally, was falling apart. All I was looking for was:
1: Something fun
2: Something with 4X4 (I am part of a group that helps for disaster relief)
The Wrangler fit the bill. In hindsight, I should have gotten the JKU as...
