If you’re dead set on a retractable mic then a truck stop is the way to go. This big name ones like Loves and Flying J always have them. I use the magnet method though and am quite happy with it. I use the Nite Ize (sp?) brand ones made for cell phones and they work well.

I typically get about a 12-14 miles on 2m simplex from my mobile in the flat conditions of my AO. You can get much further from mountain to mountain. My mobile runs 50 watts. Gary
