We have a FJ Cruiser with a factory rack. We had to McGiver a cross bar to accommodate our box. So no room on the rack. Maybe when we build the platform we can make some changes.
That is great advice. Good sleep is important when driving all day too. We have the cots and sleeping bags down. I am working on the tent part though. We have a tent we like, but it is not 3 season and we don’t yet know how it will hold up in the rain.
I already have stuff I thought I would use. We did a lot of car camping prior to getting our FJ Cruiser.
Mohave is in our list and it would be great to go with someone who really know it. But nothing too crazy for sure. That area and Highway 395. When we head down that way I will reach out.
From Amador City we took 49 to Tonzi Rd. To 124 then to twin cities rd. Then took Ione Michigan rd. To Meiss Rd. Which is where these pictures are from. Then on to Dillard rd. Hope that makes sense.
We ground tent. This works best for us. We have dogs. One of them doesn’t like even like jumping in the truck much less getting him up a ladder.
The biggest ‘problem” we have is when we go on a group ride everyone seems to have an agenda and needs to get out early. We have made the conscious...
Great advise. Just got an Garment I reach 2. Have not been out much alone except close to home.
We did the Lost Coast, A trail in Northern Nevada from Sparks to Virginia City, Mendocino National Forest, Nd Stanislaus National Forest.
We are trying to understand the trail ratings and watching...
I should do mor testing of my gear first. Our first trip out we had not set up our tent in a long time. It was definitively a challenge. We have also learned that we each have assigned tasks. That makes it go much smoother.
Welcome to Overland Bound. I do hope you can hook up with others in the Netherlands.
There is a lot of information here. What I am finding is the more I go out the more I realize what works and what doesn’t. We travel with 2 adults and 2 medium dogs. We tent camp because we watch the weight...
Thanks for sharing. I have gone on a couple of rides where the river crossing has been blocked or the road has caved in and some old the guys keep looking at the situation because they would rather take a stupid risk rather than go around. Not me and this helps make my case.
Loving what you are doing with this little vehicle. Thinking about trying to make a platform for my FJ Cruiser to help with storage. We travel with 2 Mini Aussies Nd really don’t want to travel with a trailer.
