Opening our trip up to join us and a couple other people for our run to Death Valley. We are coming down from Washington and starting from Lone Pine, CA and ending around Trona, CA; looking to spend about 5-7 days exploring the Valley and nearby areas. We are a pretty mellow group so don't...
We got the Lavabox last year and it's great. Highly recommend taking a look if you want compact and reliable. Bonus: if you get one of the accessories you can also use it as a secondary cook surface.
I'm curious to know if any of you have done a paid guided overland trip and how was it? Was it worth what you paid? Where did you go? What did you really enjoy about it and what would you have liked to seen done better?

Hey looking to see if anyone in the PNW wants to join me for a last minute trip. Seems I have 4 almost 5 days available this week (Saturday 10th-Thur 15th).
So places I'm thinking of going:
Whipsaw Trail, BC, Canada
Idaho BDR (Parts of; Sandpoint, ID to as far south as we can get)
Oregon BDR...
Are you asking for replacement suggestions? I would check out Clearview Clearview Towing Mirrors - Toyota Land Cruiser 80 Series
or a fix 80 Series Floppy Mirror Fix
I also live in WA and have been concerned about theft of my rig. Here are a few things I did: Installed a GPS Tracker with paid service. (Optimus GB100M 4G LTE) It's linked via an app to my phone and sensitive enough to trigger when opening the door or you can set a Geo-Fence. When installing...
Wow, great post. So much to unpack there.
As a child of the 80/90’s I grew up with my father being an avid outdoorsman. Not hunter, but hiker, skier, kayaking etc. it wasn’t until my 20’s that I started to appreciate all the experiences he dragged me on. At 16 you’ll only have your...
My GF and I are doing something simiiar next week. We are leaving the Oly Pen this weekend and taking a couple days to explore some areas north of Spokane and then probably a couple days on the IBDR as we head south, before cutting back and making our way home. If I can remember I'll let you...
I have a 93' FZJ80 and which is pre OBD2. If I had your rig I would get a Scan Gauge or similar product so I could monitor the Trans Temp and other sensors.
I havn't yet. However I did go on a trip early this year into the Maze District with someone who has a similar rig. Might have a small suspension upgrade but they did the White Rim last year without any issues. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.
I'm doing something similar 3rd week of July. Going to be spending about a week in the (north of) Spokane and ID area and looking for 'must see' type places or camping/views.
Met with 2 fellow members in Hanksville, UT for 5 day, 4 night trip into the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park. Wind and Rain the first night at Panorama Point and Happy Canyon. Great weather for Dollhouse 3 and the Wall. Great time had by all!
Just found this thread! I've got a couple trips planned for this summer already but depending on the weekend I could be talked into doing an overnight or something. Now that I know this thread is here I'll keep checking back to see what other 'locals' are up to!
