Unfortunately, I just noticed this post today. I live in Southington and would like to possibly join in on some of your meetups.
I haven't been actively following posts in Overland Bound lately but I plan to visit more often.
I was appointed as a Member Rep for Southern New England (CT & RI)...
Unfortunately there is nothing in lower New England for dispersed camping, especially in the areas that you mentioned. There are some primitive camping spots in northwestern mass in the Berkshires but they are in state forests and typically charge approx. $17 per night for camping. Savoy...
I missed this Dan. I would have been there had I known.
I don't always check on OB, especially lately.
There has got to be a better way of getting the word out on something like this.
If you want to try this again, I'll help spread the word.

Side Awning (can be attached to either side)
Rain Fly
Extra Poles for front awning ridge
all guy wires, stakes and carrying cases
Everything is in excellent condition. The only thing showing any wear...
I use a set of cheap $40 kayak J mounts and strap it on like I would tie down a kayak.
I originally had them on the factory cross bars on the roof of my truck but I transferred them to my trailer for easier access and between trip storage.
It's been working great for the last 3 years.
We actually had a great meetup in June as a result of this thread. There's been a shakeup in the east region and we expect it to be more active in the future. Look for activity to increase in the spring.
Looks like the scattered showers will hold off until later in the afternoon tomorrow.
For communications we will be using Channel 16 on CB and Channel 20 on GMRS.
See everyone at the museum parking lot by 11:00.
Yeah, we are starting out with simple meetups like the one planned for this coming Saturday.
Actually there are quite a few off pavement places to go in CT but they are nothing very technical. They are good for casual rides.
If things go well with some of these casual meetups, we could start...
Hi mOOse,
I'm one of the organizers of the CT meetup set for next weekend.
It's our first try at a meetup and if all goes well, it should be the first of many more.
Just wanted to let you know that we are starting to get more active in CT.
Just to add further info on the picnic/lunch.
We will be gathering somewhere in the Mohawk Mt. State Forrest for the lunch. Bring your own food. What you eat and how you prepare is up to you. You can go with pre-made sandwiches or break out your grill / stove and cook your lunch on site. We have...
You're right there is NO public legal technical wheeling spots in CT. Just some private land open to clubs by arrangement.
I know western CT pretty good and can help you in setting something up. Most likely in northwestern CT.
My preliminary thoughts would be, gather at a meeting point, travel...
I'm in CT and maybe we can try setting a meet up in one of the state forests. It's not technical wheeling but some of the gravel forest roads are a nice drive, especially to places like the summit of Mohawk Mt. in Cornwall. Meeting point, trail lunch, sightseeing. Better than nothing.
I have a 2007 H3 and owned it since 09. I love it and would never trade it for anything else. I have not had any issues with it that I didn't cause myself as I wheel it hard in rocky New England. Then again I do most of the work on it myself and find parts are easily found on RockAuto or the...
A bit of both really.
I prefer remote or dispersed camping if I am camping in a different spot each night. Setup camp for the night, take down in the morning and move on each day.
If I'm traveling to an area where I'm planning on spending a few nights in the same spot then I would rather go to...
