Hey everyone-- I'll be putting on a Dobinson's lift soon (2" front, 1" rear) and I'm not getting UCAs (yet) so I want to be sure to take my 4R to a reputable off-road shop that can do me right by an alignment. I currently live in Chapel Hill, but I'll be installing the suspension at my Dad's...
Bump -- looking at some Forest Service Roads (Rainbow Springs Rd, Ball Creek RD) in Nantahala -- would love if anyone had further recs or knew of any good remote campsites down this way.
Absolutely man, I definitely will. I've got a busy stretch coming up but looking to get up that way sometime in March/April, and I'll keep you in mind. And you're absolutely right, just the peace of mind having another vehicle out there opens up a lot of places you wouldn't want to go solo
That's an awesome looking Subie man! Yeah I've been pounding the Grandfather Mtn and Pisgah regions of Pisgah, so will be good to explore something new. Looking forward to seeing what you have mapped! Is there a way to find other user on Gaia and their public routes? Still trying to figure this...
Having explored Max Patch, is there anywhere good up there for car camping? Might be heading up that way in a couple weekends, and interested to try somewhere new outside of my normal Pisgah camping spots.
Thanks for the info Sasquatch, I'll keep an out for a lifted outback in the woods
Thanks everyone, glad to be here! Relic, didn't know about the monthly meet-up, that would be cool to make it up that way. Is it at a shop, or a meet up for some riding?
That's awesome-- Buzzard Roost has been on my to-do list! When you say "really rowdy" is it something you wouldn't tackle in a stock ride 4Runner (~10 inches of clearance) with very tame AT tires? Glad you had fun!
Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for forest service roads, or any other unpaved roads in Nantahala Nat'l Forest? Looking to do a 2-3 day camping trip out that way, primitive camping preferred. There aren't many threads on here with info on Nantahala camping, but I did see some stuff...
FYI, Hurricane Creek (as of the last few months) is closed. BRP is excellent and worth the drive absolutely. Most of my overlanding trails are kind of right in the middle of those two suggested routes, so may be too out of your way. Old NC 105 (runs along the Linville Gorge) is beautiful and a...
Has anyone been up to Max Patch or been around Harmon Den Wildlife Management Area recently? I never made it out to Hurricane Creek before it closed, but it looks like there are other options to drive up to Max Patch such as Cold Springs Creek and/or Max Patch Rd (and possibly others). Curious...
JustJames, saw your reply on another thread about the Pisgah Area -- the Harmen Den area is one of the few places I've yet to explore-- ever since Hurricane Creek closed I haven't found myself in that area, but you sound pretty knowledgeable - Seems like there are routes to Max Patch other than...
There are several good trails around Linville Gorge Wilderness in WNC. Try Old NC 105 - about 13 miles that runs North to South from Linville falls down to Lake James State Park. Fairly mild, mostly gravel with some rocks/ruts in some places. It runs parallel to the Linville Gorge, with lots of...
Hello Everyone, wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tanner and I'm just getting into the overland scene now-- looking forward to exploring the southeast!
