Weekend project: Custom Traction Jack mounts.
I recently was inspired to build my own set of Traction Jack mounts from scratch (thanks, Wawa Skittletits!) For about $38 in hardware, came up with this little number. It's important to have your traction boards handy when you get stuck, and I...
thought you guy might enjoy some choice shots from yesterday. These were taken at Browns Camp OHV Park in Tillamook State Park, just about an hour from Portland, OR. There were 22 rigs in our group (mostly FJ Cruisers), but I managed to hold my own in OB#3296 :-) I'll also put together some...
I did test drive the 2.5L and would have been fine with it had I not test driven the 3.6R immediately afterwards :tonguewink: The six is remarkably stronger than the four. I always planned on towing a camping trailer behind it so I was already inclined to get the 3.6R. I enjoy telling folks...
I love it. Outbacks aren't rock crawlers so there's really no disadvantage to going with a CVT. The X-Mode feature gives a lower gear ratio when it's required & the AWD system is world class sophisticated. If you're like me and not interested in sacrificing daily drivability for go-anywhere...
I'll definitely report back on the Hitchgate. The biggest question for me is just how rattle-free is this contraption? haha There aren't a lot of good pictured reviews out there that I can find, unfortunately. I'll solve that.
The car had much better on-road handling with the Kings, I think because they are stiffer, yet progressive (and because the car was an inch lower with them versus the OS springs). I am totally happy with the taller springs though. I would recommend them to anyone who intends to spend time away...
Yeah, you weren't kidding! You can definitely tell a difference in ride quality with the car loaded down though - it's much more comfortable with some weight in the back. I did swap out the standard height King Springs in front for the Offroad Subaru lift springs. I wanted to level things out a...
I am finally getting around to starting the build thread for Dory, our 2016 Subaru Outback!
Current Mods:
WeatherTech Floor Liners
Subaru Wheel Arch Mouldings
Curt Class 3 Hitch
Curt Trailer Wiring Kit
Primitive Racing Skid Plates (engine, transmission, read differential)
Yakima Loadwarrior...
I'm going the Wilco route. It's currently on back order but I should have it by mid to late May. I'll be sure to check in here when it finally arrives. I ordered the Hitchgate Solo High-Clearance with the Rotopax/Hi-lift Jack accessory. I also considered the custom "in-bumper" application, but...
Yeah it'll be fun seeing what you come up with for your rack puzzle, not to mention the bumper. I'm planning on mounting the traction jacks to the lid of the Pelican & the rotopax latitudinally on the rack behind the pelican (since it's already poking a huge hole in the air). Here's another...
Pelican 1730 is the one I have. it fits PERFECTLY in the Yakima Loadwarrior! There's a pic on this thread but it's hard to see how well it fits I'll get some better pics up here when I get a chance. It's not cheap but it will last a lifetime and it's watertight. It looks pretty BA to boot :-)...
Sounds like good advice. I'll definitely throw some weight back there at first. Also, I should mention that these rims have a 38mm offset. I did happen to notice today that at full lock while reversing , I noticed a slight rub that I need to look for. It sounded like a side lug so that may not...
Zero clearance issues with the new tires, lock to lock! Here's a few pics. There's about a thumbs width of clearance with the fronts and slightly less than that in the rears. Regarding mud flaps with the 245/65, I've heard it both ways - either you can or can't fit them. I haven't tried yet so I...
