I've cut down a 102" whip for a 6m antenna before. It worked good but 6m isn't useful mobile (at least in this area).
Now, to further confuse this issue, it's possible to build a matching circuit to get the antenna to "look" like it's tuned. It's hard to say how it'd work though. Probably some...
Well, there's a lot to all that. So let's break some of it down.
Bonding/Grounding: Things like the Gobi rack don't make bare metal to bare metal contact. They attach over painted surfaces and while they may show a DC current short, at RF frequencies you may have several thousand to a few...
If you are looking for a tough little NMO antenna, the Tram dual band NMO is a tough little unit. Mine has been smashed into roofs in garages, bent back by limbs, and generally abused for about 3 years now. Not bad for a $20 antenna.
Also remember that gain numbers don't always make the...
There's a few write ups in the gear forums about them but I have a set of the $100 Amazon specials that have been bolted to my roof rack for a couple years now. I've used them once and they didn't really improve my situation at that time but they held up well to the abuse they went through that...
Took a few minutes yesterday to cut the bent up 1 7/8" coupler off my little adventure trailer build and swap on a new 2" coupler. I just bolted it on with some GR8 1/2" bolts for now. I'm looking to do a tongue swap in the future if it works out like I want and I also want to be able to swap...
I love my WKO sliders! They've taken some pretty good hits too! Right now I need to give them a light sanding and hit them with some rustoleum to cover some of the places I've knocked off the powder coat recently. Gotta wash the X first though!
We have a MSR Alpine pot we've been using to go with our cast iron pan. It works great. We also keep a small GSI S/S cup in the kit that I use to drink my coffee or do small amounts of sides like green beans or chili for hot dogs.

Make sure you don't have R-CTS set. Most repeaters don't transmit a pl tone so it may not be opening the squelch on your radio. That's a common mistake with new radios.
Also, your location is a big factor. I can't work the local repeaters from inside my house on a HT. I have to have an...
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but a new concoction I was turned on to is Screwball Peanut butter whiskey mixed in a cup of hot cocoa. A single pack of Swiss Miss made with a little less water and 1 shot seems to be a good mix for my personal tastes.
I also found some banana liqueur in...
It depends on which VE team is administering it. Laurel is e-mailed and call is hours to days away. ARRL can be a week or more becuae they are certified mail.
Congratseveryone! Please check in on the call sign thread!
The FT-60R is a great HT. I just got mine last year, moving on from a VX-5R...
Sure is! We usually hang out for some BBQ and tire kicking (weather dependent).
"Watch" the thread with the button above the top post for updates. We occasionally take a ride around the area and are planning some trips later in the year.
Anybody got anything in mind for February?
If anyone is interested and knows of a place for us to get together we could do a little radio play/work. I need to go through @witchdoctor_33 radio and we could do a little show and tell.
