What a great trip! You guys saw an amazing amount of scenery!
It looks like you drove right past my favorite national forest, Mendocino. Its to the East of Ukiah in between CA-101 and I-5. Its a fantastic place to explore and camp if you ever come back down this way again.
[copy'n pasted from a similar Reno thread]
You're not so far away from The Lakes Basin Recreation Area! This is within 1.5-2 hours of Reno up the Sierras north of Truckee. Its a fantastic area to camp, hike and even 4x4 (my avatar is from west of Wades Lake by the Four Hills Mine).

from Reno, take the 395 North to Hwy 70. This will...
Sounds adventurous! Keep in mind Howard Lake is pretty far from Pilsbury, all the way up and over Hull Mountain and along the ridge to Black Butte by Covelo. This is a great drive if you've never done it before. I'm almost certain though that M1/24N2 (or Indian Dick Road) is still closed at...
Memorial Day in MNF is one of the few times when campsites will be full, especially at Letts Lake. There's a lot more room up at Lake Pilsbury where there are several developed campgrounds; Navy, Oak Flat, Sunset Point, Pine Point, and Page Point. Other great places to the north are; Plaskett...
199 looks like it goes through some cool territory!
I don't know if this is too far out of your way or not but Fern Canyon is a great spot I've been meaning to get to (see red marker on attached map):

I wouldn't really recommend Pinnacle Rock. There are not lots of places to go in the area (and its barely within the national forest) or link up to the rest of the woods to the north. Also, since its on a ridge directly over Clear Lake its very exposed to any wind and weather. :confused:
Cruiser47, look at HoppTodd's picture of his route. Right in the middle of his loop is the Mendocino National Forest. MNF is huge and has dispersed campsites as well as numerous 'developed' camp sites. Unless its a big holiday weekend, the developed sites are almost always nearly empty if not...
Hey guys MNF has tons of remote spots. The one that comes to mind right now is a cool little spot down over the edge of the M6 several miles North East of Lake Pilsbury. The only indication that its there is what appears to be a road heading over the edge towards the river. Its a small spot...
Oh Tacomas! Then let me add one more for you;
TRD Sport: This is essentially the same as TRD-Off Road, but instead of a locking diff, the Sport gets an LSD, which will be a lot nicer on road. ; )
From the sound of things, you'll be pretty happy with an SR5 or even the TRD Sport.
