Out of curiosity, on a newer rig like yours if the water pump starts gushing coolant through the "indicator hole" (which should normally seep when the bearing is on its way out, but can fail completely) can you pull the trick of effectively plugging the hole to get you off the trail?

The location of that rear breather while much better would still have me slightly concerned. I wouldn't worry about it during the trip but I would make sure to go ahead and check the gear oil for any water when I got home. Just my ¢2

I'll be checking this out to see your discovery 2 build (an LR2 is a different vehicle, sorry to be "that guy") and hopefully being able to steal some ideas for my D1

Normal MPG while averaging 70 on the freeway with my 22 year old V8 and a roof rack fluctuates based off wind but is around 12 mpg. The worst I have seen so far is while sustaining a steady 80-85mph in a desert head wind (this was before my roof rack), I was averaging around 8 mpg...
I'll also extend my help, I'll be coming down from the Goleta area and can pick him up, as long as he doesn't mind ridding in a nice and noisy discovery!

Neither of those are actually from trails, just from some interesting spots. The top photo is from the top of old sanmarcos pass, aka old stage coach road. At the top there is a little pull off with a 4 ft high little dirt area with lots of different paths up and down, my buddy had a "watch...
The rover is running strong, been a bit to busy lately to get my drawers built and my limb risers on, but I'm collecting all the parts I need.
Still have a pesky power steering leak to try and chase down, and the engine is getting a bit to hot for my taste on really long slow climbs, another...
I was up there last week during the end of our rain, and there is quite a large mudslide blocking the trail about a half to 3/4 miles in

Awesome! I'm starting to think that we should figure out a time and place to meet up and perhaps do some Wheeling

I have been exploring some fire roads up near the Divide Peak OHV route recently, however they are all currently closed due to people trying to drive down them in stock sedans to visit the hot springs, and getting stranded due to some high water crossings and the slick clay brought on by the...
I agree! There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of members around us, and thank you for the complements on my rig, I just had a peak at your build thread, and your ram looks like it could eat some serious miles while still being able to tackle the rough stuff.
You nailed it! Goleta is my home town, and so I am often down in Santa Barbara for work and play. Its awesome that you remembered my truck! Are you in the Santa Barbara area often?
I also have installed some lights and a roof rack since my last post on this one, which makes it even more...
That's why you get others to check the lake bed, so they have to scrape the mud off their trucks! Also I completely agree about following the road closed directions. While 1 or 2 rigs probably won't hurt the trail any more, I imagine that this large of a group would certainly leave its mark on...
I'd be more then happy to design a patch that covers all of the background of the Mojave road and has our group integrated into it
