What keeps you from overlanding more?

Mother Nature keeps me home or limits to shorter trips from November to April. We live a few miles past where the plows stop (which is hit and miss, at best), so there's a good chance we'd be blocked from getting back to the cabin without the help of heavy equipment. During this period, we...

    Hammocks

Just started testing a hammock system in November, there were many cases I don't have the dogs or the boyfriend on the trail, and thought getting up off the ground with my solo ultralight system may be worth looking into. I just picked up one of the Bear Butts and have been quite happy with it...

    Airing down.

I agree, my 2dr's Grabbers run at 32psi, and I like the ride of the lower psi. And that 45 psi is supposedly the low end. I'll have to bring chalk down to town, no pavement around here for a good hour.

What are your best cold weather tips?

I always go with extra sets of gloves, but I'm a big fan of a two layer glove system of thinner mechanic's type or thin wool gloves that still allow dexterity for shackles and blocks, but overmitts and gloves for shoveling, that quickly slip on and off. Too many times I see folks with ski gloves...

So, why'd you buy the overland vehicle you did?

I bought my 2 dr JK because I needed a way to get up to our cabin build sight before we cleared for a real driveway. Bought my 4dr JK because unfortunately I need to leave the cabin to get our monthly resupply, but we have three miles to where the County starts plowing. The full size trucks...

Looking to buy my first growler (s), what are your favorites?

ID, WA, and MT are my main fill up joints now, so far no issues with personal issues. That 128oz Drinktank is SWEET.

    Dogs out on the road?

One mutt has traveled with me since she was a pup all over the Western half of the US, but we added a big ole fat yellow lab, so I layer my soft goods over strapped down cases and throw an old army bag over it so they both can stretch out in back. They know when the road gets bumpy to just lay...

Bangin' around the Echo Trail, Northern, MN

Nice! I grew up on Ely Lake between Eveleth and Gilbert, but still go back twice a year since one parental unit lives there and the other splits time from her ID cabin next door and the MN cabins. Now i'm planning different routes around the Northland since my Mom won't fly.

Bangin' around the Echo Trail, Northern, MN

I just finished a trip from ID to Northern MN to retrieve my Mom from one of her cabins. While I spent several days exploring MT backroads, I'll save that for another thread. The Echo trail in St. Louis County connects two of our cabins from Orr to Ely, MN, and provides multiple access points...

tent storage, fold and roll or stuff?

Depends- My Coleman popup is a twist and fold, no choice on stuffing. But as Boort said, I'm a Fold and roll brigade member as well, matching the tentpole length cited by The Klumps, can get a nice tight roll and usually it fills out in the stuff sack after.. My 2004 Mtn HW Haven is showing...

Women of Overland Bound Roll Call!!!

I served my time down in Apple Valley, CA when I was a teenager. I try to stick to the mountains now.

Women of Overland Bound Roll Call!!!

    1) Idaho Mountains along the Clearwater NF border. 2) I'd consider a meetup in the PNW, I try to limit the amount of pavement I have to travel on. Went to one in Spokane, WA. I back up to a several million acre playground of national forests between my cabin and Montana. 3) Have two Jeeps, but...

Looking to buy my first growler (s), what are your favorites?

Took both SS growlers on my week long trip from ID to the Boundary Waters last week. I had both filled at Bitteroot Brewery in Hamilton, MT. After several days of trails, altitude changes and dropping, I enjoyed perfectly carbonated Stout and honey ale 5 days later; even the screw top held the...

    Britz's Mini Rally

We had a protocol of folks stopping at the road for a good 15-20min to cool the tailpipes, etc. Down, then charged the line as they took their spot just in case. Also cut down the area used. Neighbors left tall grass going right up to their houses. I hope they never have to deal with a firestorm.

    Great / Not so Great...

+1 on the shower. That's what we used when we were first building our cabin. It lasted for two people everyday for 18months until a mouse chewed the rubber button and exposed it to water infiltration. Great product!

    Britz's Mini Rally

Brought along a trash pump, draft hoses, lines and nozzles and used this IBC tote to draft water for fire protection.

    Britz's Mini Rally

I've got 10 acres of land that fell in the path of totality and was afraid the hordes were going to trash the land or worse, start a fire, so I invited a pile of Overlanders to Mesa Idaho to camp out and help occupy the land. Pretty diverse group coming from all over the west and out of the 9...
