For the transparency -- thank you!! Your story reinforces my own teachable stupid moment a few months ago (almost got stuck in a tight canyon with some minor damage to the rig) -- learn when to stop! Great story, a few chuckles, and knowing looks ("yup, sounds like you") from my wife ;-)
I had no idea this place existed! Just went through Warner Springs going to Anza-Borrego last weekend. We much prefer non-campground camping, but this looks like a great rustic place to camp with our RV-type friends!
We're in! We were going to do this trail alone a year ago until wisdom took over & I decided a group run would be a lot wiser. At that time, though didn't know anyone I could do this with - now there's a whole community. Can't wait!
Thank you @Reconnoiter for your work on the card template - such a fantastic idea . I took it and edited my info onto it. Cards are ordered! I also added a couple of Four Wheel Camper links on the back of the card since I get asked about my rig all the time.
Laurel Lakes Trail, Mammoth
Thanks for the vicarious trip! What great attitudes! Had hoped to be a part of it, but looking forward to us someday joining what sounds like a great group of people. Hoping we can be part of the Mojave Trail trip in March and getting to know another group of great people.
@fj80toyman I'd be more than happy to show you my FWC. I live in Orange County & work at the Orange Crush (57/5/22 Fwys). I'm sure you can do some places I wouldn't be comfortable with, but I've been surprised how much I can do. For me the issue is more the full size truck more than the...
@fj80toyman Have you looked into a Four Wheel PopUp Camper?
I've got mine on an 2004 F150, but Tacomas are a really popular platform. So far I've been able to do most trails I've wanted to do (and some my wife wasn't too happy about!). We went simple with a shell model and did some additions...
Competition is always good. I have been able to secure free 1 year pro subscription for Gaia for anyone that wants to give it a try. If you read my review of the app you can get one as well. http://www.4xoverlandadventures.com/navigation-app-choice-gaia-gps/
Nice review @1Louder. I just sent...
You are correct - thanks for clarifying about Gaia Pro. However, the cost for subscribing to Pro to get these added features in Gaia is $6 per month or $40 per year. . This is after purchasing the app for $20. BCN is $12 to purchase with no subscription for extra features. You can purchase...
I use BackCountry Navigator PRO. I like it a lot more than Gaia (which I also purchased first ,but kinda wish I hadn't). I just tried Gaia again, and confirmed I still like BCN (which isn't perfect either). The resolution & zooming are a lot better in BCN, I think. BCN has a ton of waypoint...
Good idea adding stickers to hard things like water bottles, flasks, etc!
I put a sticker on a koozie, but it won't last long with flexible neoprene, hence, the logo printed on the koozie idea. I think it would be a great conversation starter if we had a few to share with friends on the trail...
