There's been multitudes of this down in the Hill Country recently. Examples being a Dodge Ram group that got together and ran 70+ vehicles deep on the Hill Country Overland Route. There's been a few Jeep groups running with nearly as many down there.
I don't know how that could possibly be...
It's not a huge deal. We're talking handhelds here and UHF, the 3 watt power difference isn't going to make that much of a difference other than sucking your battery dry faster. The ability to hook to an external antenna is a much larger advantage than 3 extra watts. And even most full on...
Those do 2 watts on high and 0.5 watts on low. Not 5. But it's repeater capable, one of the only approved GMRS handhelds on the market that is IIRC. I've got one. It's good enough but don't expect 5 watts out of it. You can also hook it to an external antenna greatly improving performance...
Dip in a stream if available. On board water and "Campsuds" away from water sources. Shower wipes which are basically big baby wipes, those go in the garbage and hauled out.
Those are my preferences in order from most desirable to least. During the cooler times of the year it's basically...
Rugged radios is nothing but a scam. Nearly everything they sell is rebranded Chinese brands at 4-10x cost. Steer well clear IMO. They prey on their customers ignorance of radios in general and deserve everything the FCC throws at them.
GMRS is probably one of the best bets for most folks...
A roll of USB LED string lights hooked to my solar generator and individual headlamps. I also have a cheap magnetic light I stick to the Jeep. Mostly used for after dark camp setups.
15 watts isn't going to generate a lot of heat so I'm not surprised they don't have a fan on it. My Motorola mobiles make more power than those and don't have a fan.
The package you linked isn't horrible. Not a bad price either. My issue with Midland handhelds (and I have 4 of them) is...
The kids insisted on going on a "Jeep Ride" yesterday. Noticed I still had exhaust header leaks but I had some Remflex header gaskets coming in. The little one fell asleep not long after we rolled out. The oldest stayed awake for the whole ride. Didn't go far but tooled around on some...
Love my little buddy heater. We don't run it all night either. Run it when we get into our bags and when we wake up. Works great in the back of my Jeep XJ. It'll get it uncomfortably hot in there.
Fall winter time is the desert "season" out there. You'll have the most traffic out there then. Maybe more so with COVID and everything being closed down. You'll still have plenty of room just watch for SxSs and dirt bikes.
If you're in Hot Springs nearly all of the Ouchita National Forrest is just west of you. Plenty of land to explore there. Not hardcore OHV park trails but still fun to explore. The Entire Ozark National Forrest is further north from you.
Day before yesterday I had to reseal the exhaust headers and used some permatex ultra copper this go round. I had 3 leaks per bank with the dry Fel Pro gasket. I went with a differet felpro gasket his time and used the ultra copper and it seems to have fixed my leaks. I also took it into...
I'll run a non Warn winch no problem. Interesting that the WARN broke pretty early in the FW shootout yet still somehow managed to pull off a win. That's what enough advert dollars will do for you.
I ran a Rugged Ridge 8k winch on the front of my last XJ and it did it's job just fine many...
Eh I enjoy my paper maps as well but something like GAIA can pull up some old topo maps that show trails/roads that haven't existed for decades. And I have real time situational awareness of where I am.
As for sharing. I pretty much don't and if I do it's via private message. All of my...
The enginerds probably figured the D30 parts were largely adequate for factory Jeeps but they wanted to larger ring gear to support increased torque from the 4:1 in the Rubicons. No sense in weighing down the vehicle with extra weight and effect your CAFE standards more than you need to.
In the TJ/TJU Rubicon that had "Dana 44" front axles they've had a hybrid axle of sorts. It's a D44 center section but everything outboard of that is D30. It's kind of weird.
