I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical when I read the title, but after reading through the thread it’s well thought out and actually makes a lot of sense. Doesn’t hurt that you’ve got some skills with steel and a welder. Looking forward to seeing the end product.
I was wondering about that because I wouldn’t be a fan of attaching them directly to the hood latches. Seems like a lot of unnecessary stress on the latches and hood.
That is awesome. We just got a 2016 T4R Trail which is the same as your 2017 TRD off-road. Since I already have a Tepui RTT mounted on my trailer, the first thing I did was pull the running boards and order rock rails from RCI. And I like your idea of an Icon lift.
Without a price, it’s hard to say. It looks heavy as well. Regardless of price, I wouldn’t buy it because I require much more off-road capability. Thus the CDN M101 trailer I tow.
As the new owner of a 2016 Trail Premium I eventually plan on installing 3/4 or full roof rack. In the meantime I am curious about what others with more experience think of picking up a cargo basket to be used with the stock roof rails and what baskets they recommend.
The only “unusual” item would be the bolt cutters and there is a reason to have them. There have been a few times in the backcountry of the desert Southwest we’ve come upon locked gates. There was no reason to cut a lock at the time but it brought to mind in an emergency situation you may find...
Having been a member in the “early years” of OB, l recognize this a labor of love for Michael who wanted to create a community for fellow overlanders to come together and share their love for doing what we do. As this community has grown to 15,000+ members, has there been any conversation about...
That is an awesome story about the history of your Jeep. I got my first Jeep (1999 Sahara) in 2000 when my son was two. I’d take him everywhere with me and some of his first words were “Jeeps are cool” with two thumbs up. Due to someone running a red light, I had to replace (or as I prefer to...
With the addition of the 2016 4Runner, there is no longer a need for the backseat in my 2004 Rubicon. Any trips requiring room for passengers will be done in the T4R so the rear seat comes out of the Jeep for additional cargo space (and some incidental weight savings).
And out of sight, out...
If you’re going to install a RTT, I recommend trailer dimensions that are at least as big as the stowed RTT dimensions. My CDN M101 is 4’x6’ and it’s amazing how quickly it fills up.
We’ve been going to Pioneer Saloon for years and loved it so much that we got married there in 2014.
Located in Jean, NV it’s a quick half hour drive for breakfast. And with Summer coming to an end, the weather is perfect.
Breakfast road trip
As a new owner of a 2016 4R Trail I’m seriously considering the SSO slimline front bumper. I like how it keeps the lines of the front end but has recovery points and winch capability.
When I saw the first picture with the teeny tiny wheels I wondered. Then I scrolled down and saw the new frame and wheels and went “whew”. Looks likes a labor of love.
