You might check out the South Carolina Adventure Route. It's a fun but not overly challenging tour of the state and covers all kinds of terrain in its 1000 mile loop. Info and GPX files are here: The South Carolina Adventure Route.
I used to run BFG KO2. They were decent but they didn't age well at all. Good traction, but as they aged, they got very noisy and rode like wagon wheels.
I've switched to Falken Wildpeaks. They are a good bit cheaper than the BFGs and better in every way. I now run Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires...
I've been ignoring the XJ for the last month or so and spent time working on the way off-road machine. Otherwise known as the boat.
She is getting a new engine.
Honestly? I don't particularly like people. Campgrounds are full of them so I want to be somewhere else. Somewhere quiet with solitude. Probably why I never go to the popular overlanding spots and always take the road less traveled.

Other than maintenance and upgrades, I had to have the transmission resealed. While they had it out they put...
Nice to see someone thinking about the small truck market. I'll have to look into these when it comes time to replace my service trucks. I was thinking about the Ford Lightning but one of these may work as well or better. The fuel savings alone would pay for the trucks.
My daily is a...
My go-to for daily wear are Merrell Jungle Moc shoes. Comfortable all day long, no matter the surface. The narrow sole makes them perfect driving shoes. Decent traction on wet and dry surfaces. The perfect camp shoe to slip off and on when in and out of the tent. And when the trail gets super...
When the heat and humidity sets in, I hook the XJ up to the back of the RV and use it as a base camp while exploring the surrounding area. I'm too old to enjoy sleeping in the heat for the sake of using a tent.
My kids aren't as young as they used to be but some of them have kids so we drag the entire crew out when we can.
My eldest sons are frequently trail partners.
