I purchased this Warn Zeon 10-s Multi-Mount winch six months ago before I took an off-road recovery techniques class. My plan was to use it via a front hitch receiver until I upgraded my bumper. Then I was going to install it in the bumper. The bumper I just installed was an ARB Bull Bar...
I also have a front mounted hitch at the moment. I installed it thinking that a multi-mount winch was a good idea so I could use it on the front or rear of my vehicle. One thing I learned was that for a straight pull with a winch it seems fine, but for any pulls at an angle it might not be...
You might also try Prairie City SVRA Up near Sac. I have not been there, but know that some 4x4 training companies use that location for weekend classes. http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1221
I have a 2007 Tacoma TRD Sport double cab long bed. I run an OME 2.5-3” lift with the Dakar leaf pack in the back. It is an excellent option if you want a bit more ground clearance. Not too expensive and seems to be very reliable.
The road into Gold Lake is closed to vehicles in the winter. It is used for snow mobiles and XC-skiing. Info is here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/tahoe/recarea/?recid=55448
Hi
The trail is okay, but sinage is a problem. It is difficult to locate all of the points of interest along the route, and I think there are a few places where the current forest road does not follow the original route.
An updated map and write up for the tour is probably also worth...
I am using a Pelican 1720 rifle case. I have it permanently bolted to my roof rack. It holds 90% of my recovery gear. It is watertight and locked. So far no one has tried breaking the locks.
I keep a small soft bag behind my seat with the other 10% of the gear. The bag has a snatch strap, a...
I wonder if we could get more Overland ers licenses for ham radio by hosting some sort of OB HamCram events around the country. Maybe try to have one in each OB region, all on the same day. Would be a fun way to Rally the OB community to get licensed.
Here are links to a few.

I’m sure there are others.

I will be leaving Livermore at 7:00 am tomorrow morning. According to Google it should take 2:40 to get to Summit Ranger Station. I will have my wife, son and one of his friends with me. We plan on heading back to Livermore Saturday evening; no overnight camping for us this trip. Looking forward...
Over the last two weekends I installed a 2" OME lift on my 2007 Tacoma. It was the first time I have done any work with the suspension on the truck (or any vehicle for that matter). It had worn out original front struts, original rear shocks and the Toyota recall replacement leaf springs. It was...
I have never considered heading offroad without one. To help with stability there are various solutions.
The comments about needing a jack stand for under vehicle repairs is worth heading. This is an excellent solution for that...
Just saw this on MobTown Offroad's Facebook feed. It usually takes 8-10 weeks to get a set of sliders. They have one set available for a Gen 3 Tacoma. Someone should grab them quick!

Take a look at MobTown Offroad. They build a bolt on slider for the Tacoma that is top notch. Very strong and they have engineered a very strong boxed chassis mount that isn't found on some of the other bolt on options. I have these on my 2nd gen Tacoma and couldn't be happier.
I have a lightly used 48" Hi-Lift Jack taking up space in my garage. It needs a new home. I recently installed the rebuild kit from Hi-Lift. Climbs smoothly.
Asking $45 OBO. Will not ship. Located in Livermore, CA. Happy to meet somewhere, if not too far away.

I'm trying to find a gov site where I can download the raw data from that interactive map. It would be very useful if a GPX or KML file was available with the same data. Then I could import it into Gaia GPS on my iPad and being it along with me into the great outdoors!
What a relief. Loosing the key fob would totally suck. For our truck we decided to get one of these (http://www.hitchsafe.com) after a trip to the lake last summer where I almost lost my keys. Now I have a spare key and key fob locked in this all the time. Provides some peace of mind and...
With the heavy storm damage this past winter, I am finding that many of the routes that were on my list to explore this summer are closed. The USDA Forest Service put up an interactive map that makes it very easy to check on our proposed route for possible closures. Many of the routes are...
